Minecraft shaders can HAMMER your CPU to the absolute limit, especially at ultra.

Welcome to Java based games

SEUS is a very demanding shader.

If you aren't using an Optifine/ShadersMod combo JAR, you ought to do that ASAP.

I personally use the BSL Shaders which I find a good balance between performance hit and visuals: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2396689-capttatsus-bsl-shaders-chocapic13-shaders-edit (Download folder: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/l928ap9j9jncd/BSL_Shaders)

Why does my  fps not get above 30 when I'm running SEUS Ultra and optifine on my 970. I get the feeling my fx 6300 hundred must be bottlenecking it but are shaders that CPU intensive, it still is only minecraft after all.

Combination of VRAM and CPU.

I get 55-70 FPS with my 290x, and VRAM usage fluctuates between 2.9GB to 3.8GB. The 970 as we all know caps out in terms of normal bandwith memory at 3.5GB.

As for CPU, my 3570K is overclocked to 4.6Ghz and is quite a lot better in terms of IPC than an fx-6300 to begin with.

You can reduce VRAM consumption by reducing draw distance, or shadow resolution. Or simply use a more efficient texture pack.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

surely  if I was using too much Vram it would have just tanked the fps

Usually yes, if you flat out run out of VRAM, however the 970 has an additional 500MB of slower VRAM so instead of a "hard" prolonged stutter slideshow you may experience a smoother middle ground. It's just an assumption though.

I think the CPU is the main issue, but you can try decreasing view distance a little and see if anything improves?

okay no you were right, I swapped to a 128x resource pack to free up VRAM   and it significantly increased performance

I knew it was there and just slower but I had heard if you  dipped into it, it was basically the same as it not being there

not a bottleneck, not a cpu problem something else even 750 ti with fx6300 are able to reach 60fps on seus shaders ultra
