Dual Boot Dolphin/Linux Machine Light Gaming

  • I have been doing a lot of research for an upcoming build. My computer is just about to kick the bucket. I need a new machine to run Dolphin/PCSX2 with at least 2X MSAA. I won't be driving anything higher than 1080p. I will be doing quite a bit of package compiling and will need decent multi-threaded performance I don't think I will have to worry about being future proof because I won't be running any of the newest games. This is the build I have been thinking up so far.

 

 

CPU: i5 4690K

GPU: GTX 750Ti/R7 370

MOBO: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition

RAM: 2X4 GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3

Storage: 2X OCZ Trion 240 GB/ WD Black 2 TB

PSU: Corsair CS550M

 

 

If anyone could offer any input or has experience on Dolphin's optimal hardware, I would appreciate some advice on my upcoming build

I have 0 idea what dolphin is but the build looks good.

Dolphin is a Gamecube/Wii Emulator. At least that's what I am assuming he means...

yeah I guessed that, but I've never used it before.

4690K is overkill for a 750 Ti or a 370

 

Spend less and get a better GPU.

Spend less and get a better GPU.

OP is going to be doing emulation. That CPU is going to be worked hard, while the GPU will have an okay amount of usage. For OP's use, its a great CPU(sine it has two attributes: High IPC and high clockspeed, with the ability to push more if needed). If this was a typical gaming build, then it would be unbalanced.

The build looks good for emulation

Just make sure you cool the CPU properly

It will come under lots of load during emulation

this. I mean if you have a decent non-stock cooler, don't worry. But cooling overkill isn't a bad thing since overclocking makes a noticeable difference for emulation, for obvious reasons, and it may really be worth an AIO watercooler to you (or sometime in the future if you want to get it as an upgrade)
