Hello, please next time use the title properly, I think it's against the CoC to use unclear titles or something I'm not sure.

Second, please elaborate on what's you mean by servers, there are so many servers for so many different things.

Early 2020 Build : Intel i7 8700k // MSI Krait Z370 // Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Aorus 5700 XT // NZXT H500

Early 2019 Build : Ryzen 2600X // Asus Tuff X470 // G.Skill Trident Z RGB 8x2 16GB // MSI RTX 2070 // NZXT H500

Late 2017 Build : Intel i7 8700k // Asus Prime Z370-A // G.Skill Trident Z 8x2 16GB // EVGA GTX 1080 Ti  // NZXT S320 Elite

Late 2015 Build : Intel i7 6700k // Asus Maximus VI Gene Z170 //  Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Gigabyte GTX 970 // Corsair Air 240

that's actually kind of a stupid rule but i digress

Maybe an FX-8320 or Xeon setup?

its going to run xenserver so i can have a instance running a game server, and another running a Home Media Server

thats way overkill for what you're doing.

just build a small pc and toss linux on it. (or any windows variant if the game server is windows only)

EDIT: what game, and a bit more in depth on what kind of media server.

I would just put together a Hasewell Xeon system or as recommended above check out ebay or craigslist.  I believe you would benefit from multi-core and single core performance again depending on the game servers.

what about building a server (I think you can but I am not sure)

A server is just a purpose really. It's essentially just a PC, but the hardware is often specifically designed for a use case.

Yeah. Any bidding sites, that are trusted and are genuine. I get my networking equipment from eBay for cheap. I bought a couple of network switches from eBay,as well as a Dell PE 2950

It's overkill but you can run multiple game servers at once.

not to pick on amd, or your building skills, but NO! NOT AT ALL!

first off, generally game servers are single threaded, or very badly multithreaded, making some of intel's options more appealing.

together with that comes that intel just is more energy efficient, which is actually rather important when the machine is running 24/7, for more reasons than only the energy bill.

adding in that intel chips generally have built in graphics (one of the best picks in the xeon family price/performance wise is actually one with integrated graphics)

also, i'd rather not recommend anything at all, before we know specifics of what game server, because even xeon might be falling out of the boat on this one.

I tried to do it really cheaply rather than per-core performance. Meh, a Xeon option shouldn't be THAT much more expensive.
