Which setup to go for?

Go to solution Solved by o0Martin,

First, congratz on the exam results :)

And second, if you go for the ultrawide option I assume you'll be going for a 29" one right? To match the vertical height and resolution of your current displays.

If that is the case then it really just depends on your productivity needs, will you benefit from having a wider single screen compared to 2 split screens?

And how much do bezels annoy you in gaming? If they will when you game in a triple monitor set up, then gaming on the 1 ultrawide and having the side monitor as a web browser or something may be better. Although if you don't mind them then a triple monitor set up will be nicer for gaming, and it can be easier to be more productive with a triple monitor set up if you don't do anything that benefits from an ultra wide display (Something that would normally need some horizontal scrolling).

Hi all,

I need some help with deciding what monitor setup to go for. Currently I have 2x 24 inch 1080p 60hz monitors. Both are different brands from each other. I am planning on replacing them either now, or over the next few months, but I can't decide what to replace them with. Here are my 2 options:

  • Sell both, and get a triple monitor setup
  • Sell 1 (The worse of the 2), and buy an ultrawide monitor, and rotate the existing monitor by 90 degrees.

I will primarily be using my PC for gaming and work on documents / browsing the web. I have around £100 saved up, but since I got got exam results, this counts as a present for them.

Let me know what you guys think, and which monitors to buy for each config.

Thanks!

Daanish

Ye, get a widescreen one. It will be far more enjoyable for gaming than anything else.

The cheapest 29" happens to also be one that has 75hz and has freesync for amd cards. And its on discount this week even:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-128-LG&groupid=17&catid=948

Sell both your current monitors to get that, sell any other garbage you dont need.

But its like this - if you cant get this one - you should wait. Any cheaper widescreen will be a disappointment, either cuz too small or too stuttery.

This is pretty much the cheapest monitor anyone should buy. Anything thats currently available below this price is pretty shit and is a disapointment one way or another.

Thank you :P.

I have no idea about sizes for ultrawide, but I suppose I would want it the same height. Having 2 screens is VERY useful I find, which I why I was going to keep 1 of my existing screens and just rotate it 90 degrees.

I've never used a triple monitor setup, so I don't know if bezels will annoy me.

Yeah if you want them the same height roughly 29" is what you'll want, 34" will come to the same rough height as a 27" display. (That's for the screen size ofc, the frame/bezel heights will vary)

The bezels can be nice for productivity, as it will act like a separator, and you can snap windows to them easier. But for gaming some people (like me) can't stand them because they break the immersion and leave a blank gap in the way where the monitors connect. But some people don't mind it at all. It just depends on you really. Does the bezel on your duel monitor set up now annoy you at all? (I know you probably don't game on both at the same time, but maybe viewing other content over both displays)

Since my monitors are different models, they are different heights. As a result, I dont actually put them right next to eachother. I leave a bit of a gap. The bezels are rather wide, probably over a cm for each monitor.

I just put them together, and they aren't too bad, but they would be horrible for gaming!

Are there are good monitors which would work for a triple display for gaming? Currently I have about £350 to spend, so I could buy 2 now, and save up for a third potenially?

But then again ultrawide is cheaper.....

I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO HELP xD

Well if you're looking for super thin bezels then the Dell U2414H is a good bet, it will work well in a triple monitor set up and will cost about £170 each, and it will look great thanks to the IPS Panel, that also means it wont colour shift when you don't view it straight on.

If you needed something even cheaper still then there is the Dell S2340L which has slightly thicker bezels, but for about £130, but it also doesn't have any height adjustable options or pivot, which may be an issue if you're still using one of your older screens or w/e.

3 of the U2414H's will come to £510 and 2 will come to £340 (Just under your £350 budget), the cheapest 29" ultrawide you could get would be about £230, being the LG 29UM55.

I spoke to some other people, and I've decided to go for a triple monitor setup either with:

or

What's best you think?

Tbh I think they will perform pretty much the same as each other, both are decent IPS Panels at 1080p, with similar sized bezels, and both with 2 HDMI inputs, get which ever you like the look of better, or which ever you can find cheaper.

I'd personally be lent more towards the Asus though.
