So I forgot my login password. When I type an incorrect password no password hint comes up. I only have one account on my computer. I also don't have any kind of windows accounts recovery disc. My account is local I think so I didn't sign it up with an email address. Please help

If something like this happened to me I'd:

  • Boot a Linux distro
  • Copy all the important files from my C:\ users folder
  • Copy any important program licenses from program files.
  • Backup your important files
  • Clean-install Windows
  • Copy all important files back to Windows, and re-activate programs that need reactivation.

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.

I had the same. Turn on your PC into Safe Mode and go into CMD.

Type this:

net user Administrator /active:yesshutdown -r

Once you have done that, login to the Administrator account.

Use Windows Password Key to break your password.

Once in the program slect USB Flash and click Burn.

Now turn off your PC and insert the USB. Change the startup order in BIOS if needed.

And the rest is self explainatory. The program should start up.

This. There was some utility I downloaded years ago years ago when I forgot my Windows 7 password. Just stuck it on a USB drive and with a few button presses it cleared my password. Would be easier and faster to use that, but unfortunately I can't remember what it's called. :/

What? install linux

No, no,  you just use the LiveCD to get into Ubuntu. :) No need to install anything. Of course if you can get into Safe Mode or have another option then don't do this, but you said you didn't, so  this is the easiest and safest way to do it (that I am aware of).

For example, the steps would be:

Get USB

Download Ubuntu ISO

Download and Install Linux Live USB Creator (you need another PC, which I'm assuming you have)

Open the USB creator, locate ISO and point to the USB

Press the Lightning Bolt to install

Once finished, reboot PC to boot off USB

Press "TRY UBUNTU"

And then follow the instructions in the link I gave. :)

EDIT

Oh and when you arrive at the cmd prompt, you use this command:

net user user_name new_password

Where "user_name" is your username/account and "new_password" is the password you want to set up.
