Best $60 PSU?

Go to solution Solved by CyberneticTitan,

So should I upgrade my PSU first or get a Seidon 120V to replace the stock cooling on my 4170? The 400W is doing fine right now, as is the CPU, I'm just starting the upgrade process. Maybe I should go with the cooler instead and wait 'til I get more money to get a nicer PSU?

Cable management as of yet:

Yes, I would go with cooler first because chances are you'll have to redo your cable management if you bought your PSU first. Also if you can afford a nicer PSU, that would be better.

Hey all, I need a new PSU, I sold my old laptop for like $60 to buy a better PSU. Couple wants/requirements:

1. Modular, at least modular enough that I don't need molex plugged in and stuff.

2. At least 500W, enough to power an R9 380 and a Xeon when I finish upgrading.

3. Short, can't be too long or it won't fit in my SG05 that was already modified to fit an ATX PSU in the first place.

4. 80+ rating would be nice.

5. Try and keep it under $60, shipping included. I can maybe sell my old PSU for like $10, but still, keep the cost down.

@STRMfrmXMN if you could help me out, that would be great. Thanks!

Is it modular at all? The SG05 barely has cable management options as it is lol.

I'm p sure they have a modular version.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

$60 w/o rebates or sales will not get you a very good power supply.  Expand you budget by $20 and you will be able to get a EVGA semimodular with your required wattage.

I know, there are a lot of good PSUs for $60 like this Seasonic: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151094 but none are modular. And I'm pretty sure I can't shorten the cables without voiding the warranty.

Seasonic is their OEM. It is very reliable and trustworthy.

Why the hell won't the links to the sites work? I click NCIX and the domain error shows up, same with SuperBiiz and Newegg.

Hence why you need a larger budget to get the creature comforts like modularity.  I would say however if you are really on a strict budget do not worry about modularity and just get the best PSU you can find and work on your cable management skills haha.

I know how much you guys hate the CX series, and I;m sure it will burn out in my case since the PSU moves a lot of heat out, but this is the only one so far that's met my requirements. Any thing else I can get away with? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139050&ignorebbr=1

Try quoting the post with the links, then copy and pasting the links (as opposed to just clicking on them).

How is this Seasonic one? I know at $60 I'm not going to get modularity unless I go with a crappy CX series. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151094

No it's on PCPartPicker's site. Everytime I click a part and go to click the link to the seller's website only sites like Amazon work. I get DNS errors for the other links.

That is also a good reliable PSU. On par with XFX. Would go with that over CX.
