Hey everyone quick question. First time building and I have a static wrist strap I'm just wondering what would be a good location to build it. I have carpet except for 2 places in the house like my kitchen is all tiles and I have a room with hardwood floors would they be good? Also for using the power supply as the ground and connecting the wrist strap to it should it be plugged in and on the off spot or would it being unplugged be fine?

Building on tile will probably be your best bet, and just clip your anti-static wrist strap to your case.

Have the PSU plugged in, but the PSU switch and socket turned off. You may wish to use the anti static strap on your ankle, instead of your wrist (as this can give more freedom). Building on a hardwood floor may be a bad idea, because you could possibly scrape the side of your case and/or the floor varnish/finish. If you build there you may wish to put something under your case to protect it and the floor (e.g. the plastic wrapping the case came in). As long as you're protected from static building on the carpet should be OK, but if it's got a deep enough pile you may end up searching for dropped screws/fittings for a while ;)
