Wud's Cave, whole room gaming and entertainment.

Wud Legerity

So, I started this "man cave" 3 years ago for PC, console and live gaming. It evolved into more of a man-cave where I can still do all my gaming but also use it as my office and have friends over for beer, whiskey and football.

I will post the whole room in stages so you can see the order of operation.

I'm finally at the stage where I can start working on all the aesthetics and fun stuff. I seemed to have lost the original room pics but they weren't much to see.

The room started as 24'x18' with raw concrete floor and cinder block walls, the ceiling was just the rafters from the floor above as the room s in my basement.

Advice: Make sure you lay down the law early if you have a spouse. If you let them put overflow items in your room you will never finish. I have a few buddies that are trying to recreate my room and they all have  a blank room with sewing machines and boxes of women's old clothes. Its sad.

So on that note let me welcome you to "Wud's Club", where all Wud's drink for free...

Note: all of my good pics with proper lighting will not up load due to file size limits.

First, I painted the rafters in the ceiling with a flat black paint and primer in 1. I used an airless sprayer.

the advantage to this is cost and simplicity. Drop ceilings are expensive and cut down on the height of your room. Also when I need to run new wires a just spray them with a rattle can of flat black. It gives the whole room a loft feel. 9.5" ceilings make it feel less like a basement.

Next, I stained the concrete floor in a reddish-brown that feels like sealed rust. Nice for when some ass hat breaks a beer bottle or spills a drink.

Next, I framed in the whole room and put up sheet rock.

Advice: I did it myself, but I suggest paying a sheet rock guy to do it. Sheet rock requires a practiced hand.

I walled up the main room of 24'x18' square, but I added an entrance hallway to hold a pantry, 2 refrigerators and a storage closet.

The curtain hides the door to the storage closet which is 6'x16'. The door is over sized tall and I haven't had time to build one from scratch yet.

I found some furniture from a doctors office that I used for my entertainment center/bar. Its is 12' wide.

It holds my 65" panasonic plasma, sony amp and sound bar.

Also Xbox one and wii for the virtual console, apple tv, cable box and 8 port giga-switch.

Added some booze and books for decor.

I got all the furniture and the card table from an estate sale.  Right after that, I started buying all my PC parts. I waited till black-friday / cyber monday to buy up my whole rig.

Here it is and the crappy tables I had to use until I could build my desk. The monitor is an old 55" plasma we use for tailgating. I'm waiting on that 34" Acer curved monitor to release.

Next was the desk.

I decided on simple, functional and cheap. I had just built a fishing rod holder out of copper so I decided to go with .75" blue copper pipe for all the legs. The top is 3/4" domestic grade B-2 birch sheet material. The desk is made from 2 4'x8' sheets and 40' of copper pipe. I designed the desk in Sketchup then made stencil and made my guide lines on the raw wood. I cut it all by hand with a jigsaw. Then sanded the edges and routed them with a 5/16" round-over bit on the underside and a 3/8" round-over on the top side. It gave the top a more natural feel to go with all the curvy lines. I pre-stained then made some stain from scratch using linseed oil, walnut and japan drier.

After, I sealed the entire top with polycrylic from an HVLP sprayer and then wet sanded and added 3 more coats to ensure it would be smooth and protected from stains.

I sweated all the pipe with flux a solder. this way i could easily break it down if need be and i like the look of it.

I cut some 1" angle steel and welded it into a "T" spine to place under the top for support. It makes the whole top super rigid.

Non of the copper working pics or the finished top pics will post because of files size.
