It would help to mention what the system is being used for and how much storage you would need.

My HDD is ancient, I want to replace it

For the Hard Drive:

If you want the best performance then go for the Western Digital Black series and choose your preferred size.

If you want a mix you could grab a Western Digital Blue series or a Seagate Barracuda, I have a Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM and it works great.

However, if you're a guy that cares about power consumption you could go for the Green Series by Western Digital.

This obviously depends on your needs and uses of your PC, but i hope this helps you.

I personally do not recommend hybrids, it's better to have an SSD as Boot drive and an Hard Drive as a storage drive.

For the SSD, it's a hard choice: there are so many of them so to get a really good advice you should release some more details about the uses of your pc and how many programs/data you would like to store on your boot drive!

So I'm planning on changing my HDD, which is the best?

$100~

Hey there dappy10,

What is your current HDD's brand and model? If you have a SATA2 port on your computer, SSDs would generally be limited to 375MB/s even if they support higher speeds. What are you using your system for? Not all applications would benefit from higher speeds.
SSDs generally improve the whole responsiveness, boot/load times and transfer speeds but tend to be more expensive in terms of price per GB.
SSHDs are useful if you use only a few applications mainly on your computer so it can store their files on the SSD portion for better performance. Everything else works pretty much as it would on a regular HDD.
HDDs are generally the most inexpensive option and can handle pretty much anything.
