My moms macbook air is connected to my old wifi network we will call wifi1

i have a new nework called wifi2

for some strange reason i ipscan wifi2 and ipscanner is telling me its her macbook.

she has joined this connection before but right now it says wifi1.

even the ip says wifi1

i ping the ip to make sure its not fake and its actually connected somehow.

WE have no other macbook airs in the house but that one.

??? how is this happening? i enabled ssh on her computer and i cannot connect though.

TL:DR

moms macbook connected to 1 network shows up on 2nd network but shows its connected to first network, pinged it and it says its live...

What is this "tldr" you speak of? :)

Anyways, I'm guessing that your regular router is hooked up to another router, meaning that both your ips will be the same, after all, they are coming from the same ISP, right?

This means that your ip will be the same regardless, as there is an IP address assigned to all access points if they are the same network.

Just to be clear, you are in the same house using 2 wifi networks from 2 ISPs paying double the price? Y?

Anyways, I'm guessing that she's automatically connecting to two networks, one of which is down. I've had this happen before when my pc displayed a connection to xfinity wifi even though I was not using it, but rather my wired connection.

So she's actually wired even though her pc says wireless.

That is my guess.

Well, it's arris, so there will always be something wrong with it. Also, you could just get a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter for the air. And also, why do you want your computers to be on different networks? Tryin to hide somthing?

My native language is C++

What happens when you drop the dhcp lease from the router broadcasting wifi2?

Does the MacBook renew it after some time or Does it stay off it?

Also, have you tried removing wifi2 on the MacBook through "networks" in Finder?

If i remove wifi2 from the macbook it shows up as it is not on the network anymore.
