Problems with h100i

my 5820k is cooled on an h100i. I am overclocked to 4ghz and at 1.25v. under load (prime 95) I am getting temperatures in the high 90's with some cores maxing at 103 degrees. It doesn't crash or fail after many hours so I am thinking that my cooler is to blame. It was passed down to me from a friend. It was bought refurbished and fairly old. Anyways any help would be appreciated.

Cooling a $300 + CPU with a USED $30 dollar solution doesn't sound like a smart decision to me, get something like the R1, or another AIO.

Go with a d15 if you don't mind looks. From everything I've seen it performs better than the h100i.

Do you have corsair link installed?  Can you check pump/fan speed and post those?  If pump is bad then your hosed, if fan is bad replace that fan.  If fan/pump are ok, then its probably either an issue with the thermal compound or an issue with the working fluid(water).  Re-seat the water block and change the orientation on the rad (could be air).

well when i got it from my friend I was told that corsair link wouldn't work and that the usb connector for it was broke. I didn't mind as I just use my bios for fan speed.

well theirs your first concern...  first off all try to install link, it may work.  How are you controlling pump speed?

 

I dont have a H100, but I would plug in the USB, and grab a molex to 3pin fan connector(tear one off a spare fan) and try to power it that way

well when i got it from my friend I was told that corsair link wouldn't work and that the usb connector for it was broke. I didn't mind as I just use my bios for fan speed. 

 

You can also check your cooler's pump speed in BIOS. There is a 3pin connector (tach sensor) coming from the pump that you can connect to any fan header on your MB. Make sure to disable smart fan control for that header to ensure that you're feeding the pump 12V. Check your BIOS and see if the pump is running around 2200rpm. if the rpm is way out of that range, your pump is bad. 

 

Also, as ryan pointed out, I'd try reseating the pump just to make sure that you have full contact between the coldplate and CPU. 

 

Unfortunately, our warranty will no longer cover that unit since you are the second owner.

It is Prime95 that is normal. Also don't use Prime95. It kills your CPU.

my 5820k is cooled on an h100i. I am overclocked to 4ghz and at 1.25v. under load (prime 95) I am getting temperatures in the high 90's with some cores maxing at 103 degrees. It doesn't crash or fail after many hours so I am thinking that my cooler is to blame. It was passed down to me from a friend. It was bought refurbished and fairly old. Anyways any help would be appreciated.

do not use Prime 95. prime 95 on Intel cpus raise the voltage higher then you put in. adia 64 is alot better for Intel cpus
