Silverstone GD09 Review

spwath

Here is my review of the Silverstone GD09

I got this case as I needed an ATX HTPC case, and this was the only one that would fit in my cabinet.

Packaging

Nothing to complain about, pretty thick cardboard, thick hard foam, in a plastic back.

8/10

Looks

Well its subjective, but its a pretty basic case.

It will go well with any home theater set up.

It has a brushed plastic front, only visible from some angles.

5.25" bay in front. Optical drives match the front,

so its looks like they belong.

2 USB 3.0 and Headphone/Mic on front.

7/10

Build Quality

Well its very solid, especially for 75$ at amazon.

There is a long suport bar going across the top, so the top

should be pretty strong, if one would put a light

monitor on it.

Nice very clicky power and reset button.

The front is plastic, not aluminum, like I would

like, but it was really cheap.

8/10

The Build Experience

Pain free.

Really.

Though the reason for this, is that many

cable management options are not available.

You will want a modular PSU.

I did not have one. Hence my build.

But, it was easy.

Follow the instructions to do it in the right order.

Standoffs are pre installed.

Unfortunately, there is not a tooless mount to be found.

You will need a screwdriver to open the case.

If you dont have a modular PSU,

you will have a big mass of cables.

Finished build looks nice, as there is no window.

8/10

Value

This is where it excels.

$75 is an amazing price for this.

Great build quality and overall product for that price.

10/10

Final

I give it an 9/10.

Great everything, but still a budget offering.

i still have the GD05 it worked very nicely for about 6 years as HTPC. only complaint in these is that they are a pain to open up for modifications after the fact, compared to a side window tower. but, with HTPC, you really build and forget anyway.
