hello people of the internet

i am currently running a core 2 duo E8400 3.00ghz with an intel DP45SG motherboard. and i think it is time for an upgrade.

i mostly will be doing  gaming and media work (photoshop, sony veges etc.). i would like some suggestion for motherboards and CPUs.

i would like to keep both the CPU and MB under $300. and it would be nice if the MB was crossfire ready (as i am using a HD 7770 with it).

I would recommend a 4670k but with a good MoBo combination that would go a little over budget. I would suggest something from the AMD side but to be honest I know nothing about AMD.

My opinion is you can either go Intel or AMD:

Intel (This might put you over $300 - depends on how cheap a board you can find):

i5-4670k

+ cheapest z87 board that supports crossfire (Brand doesn't really matter as long as it's a well known brand like ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, asrock, evga, etc)

AMD:

FX-8350 + chepeast AM3+ board that supports crossfire

You could likely save some money and go with either an Intel i3 Haswell CPU or an AMD FX-6300 series CPU, but spending the little extra to get the i5 or the 8350 is worth it.

I might be able to squeez my wallet a little but not too much.

also is there a big diffrence between an 4670k and a 4570 other than being able to overclock

just a lower clock speed but not noticeable in games.

I would go with a AMD platform with your budget and you cannot overclock on that motherboard.

Get the Extreme 4 970 instead to save some money.
