PC wont boot right

Go to solution Solved by manikyath,

I do have lubuntu on a disk I'll try that, does that mean Debian wont work on this pc?

from my experience linux distros can be hit or miss sometimes.

i have a system that runs an ubuntu live cd just fine, but wont boot into an install AT ALL.

tossed lubuntu on it, runs like a dream.

a system that was my home server for a LONG time actually ran a heavily modified version of lubuntu, with all my service disabled i got ram usage down to 150-ish MB.

also, debian is a tad more advanced than the *buntu distros, while still all sharing the same base.

Okay so I have an old $500 prebuild from CyberpowerPC, it was my first "gaming" rig, and now my friends and I are trying to set up some dedicated servers on it but there's been an issue.

Its running an FX-4300 on an 760GM-P22 mobo, with the Toshiba HDD that it came with that I know for a fact works.  I tried to install Debian onto it and it seemed to work, but when it boots,

it just goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor on it.  The HDD is registered and selected as the main boot drive, and when installing Debian from a disk, it registers and installs it on the

HDD.  I'm out of ideas and I'm not sure what to do.  Any help would be great.

my first suggestion here would be to hop distros.

more directly i'd say try to install lubuntu, that's been a problem solver for me in many occasions like this.

did you disable all the windows options in the bios?

There arent that many options in the bios let alone windows options.

Does it matter that it's a prebuilt? Would if have some proprietary software or something preventing any other OS besides what it came with which was Windows?
