I am considering building my first pc (for gaming mainly)

I am a complete noob at this so I'm not sure if there's a problem with these parts:

I would appreciate any advice/improvements

Thanks!

Not too bad. I would suggest a 128gb SSD it's worth it and if you can fork over the extra $100 I suggest a 970 4gb

CPU: I7 4790k  CPU Cooler: NH-D15 GPUMSI 970 4gb   Motherboard: z97 Gaming 5 PSU: Corsair hx850   Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8 gb  SSD: Samsung 850 Evo  Case: Air 540

I'd definitely change the power supply. Corsair is good but that supply in general not really meant for gaming. Unless you really want to go with nVidia you shouldn't get the 960. You should save a little more and get a 970 or try and find a 280x, newegg has 280x cards for nearly the same price as the 960, if you don't mind having AMD that is.

Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, 32GB Cosair Vengenace LP 3600mhz, EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra,  Sabrent Rocket 4 1TB NVME SSD, Crucial P3 4TB NVME SSD, 4TB Mass storage, EVGA 750W G2, NZXT H9 Flow

So would something like this be a bit better?

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/H9JDHx

Also, would it be better to wait until black friday or boxing day in case some of the components go on sale?

What's your budget? Also, I'm assuming you're using Canadian Dollars, correct?

Yeah, its canadian. my budget is around C$1000, including the monitor, but I'm kinda flexible

One more question - will you be overclocking or no?

Here is my version of this build. It has an SSD, an R9 380 GPU, and the i5 you wanted, all in for just over C$1000. I live in the U.S. so this was kinda hard for me :)

I like this build. However, don't you think that $85 is a little to much for a 520W PSU?
