Controllable Fan Hub

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

While you mention the issue with Corsair fans and PWM control with 3 fans you shouldn't have any issues with say a swiftech splitter, I'm currently using one with 6 fans without issue, from what I've read a lot of users who run 6-8 fans on it makes it so the PWM signal is too weak to be able to control all those fans.

Ok, So what I am looking for is a fan hub that will allow me to control the 2 new sets radiator fans that I will be installing alongside my Z170 upgrade. I need to be able to control a total of 7 fans, 3 of which will be PWM. Now i will state that I will be using corsair SP120s as well as AF140 fans, because I know that some fan hubs dont agree with corsair fans. The 120s will be PWM fans and the 140s will be 3-pin obviously.

I want to be able to control the fans with the onboard fan controls that are with the Maximus VIII Extreme board. I really like the fact that I don't have to use a third party software, as it helps keep my computer that much more tidy, and it also guarantees that a third party application wont crash.

So I guess what im looking for is either one or two fan hubs that can go in the basement of my case, that will control 4 140mm fans as well as 3 120mm fans. And I would like to be able to control the fans with the software with the motherboard. Thanks so much for the help!

Collecting every single CPU in existence? Is it possible? I have no idea, but i'm sure gonna try! http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/341848-dont-throw-away-old-cpus-im-collecting/

Don't you have enough fan headers to directly control all of the fans from your motherboard? Also most fan hubs like that use either hardware adjustments or additional software

I will have an overall total of 13 fans in the case... I enough fan headers to control the 4 fans for the top rad as I will just use 2 dual fan splitters for the 4 fans. I then have a dual 120mm rad in the front, that, depending on how many fan hubs are on the right side of the board, will be either directly to the board, or with another fan splitter cable.

The problem comes when I try to attach another 7 fans. I dont want to run 7 fan cables up to my board, it would make the build look ugly, and there is no way that there is another 7 fan headers on the board. especially when 3 of them are already filled by other radiators.

okay, so what your saying is that some people have issues? what if i were to use 2 splitters off of seperate headers? can you link them?

Theses are the ones from Swiftech, I haven't had any issues running 6 Corsair QE PWM fans on it with an Asus Z97-pro board so I think you should be ok, however I never tried populating all 8 headers since I don't have any more PWM fans.

so the other questions is, what will happen if i put 3 PWM and 4 3-Pin fans on the hub? will I be able to controll them all? will the 3-pin fans just be DC controlled? I want to stay away from fans running at full speed, as the system will have 13 fans :P

but overall i think you nailed it, I will most likely go with this and then if it doesent work, look for another solution

The Swiftech hub is only PWM controllable so if you use 3 pin fans on it they run at full speed. If you want to use 3 pin fans a general fan splitter on the motherboard will work, just be sure to setup that header as DC voltage control in the BIOS, and the general rule of thumb is 3-4 fans per header to not exceed it's 1Amp capacity.
