If you aren't using it, why not turn it off to save power? I would turn it off if I am not using it.

If you don't pay the electric bill, it doesn't really matter. :P Leaving it on overnight won't do any damage.

I generally never turn mine off, but I'll use some sort of sleep mode. The startup is quicker, your work space is where it was before you put it to sleep, and the power draw is minimal.

I have a computer which I also almost never have put in to sleep or anything like that (it's a Dell laptop). I use it to host my home "servers", most notably I use it to host my AirVideo server, and I use AirVideo in bed as i go to sleep (and thus it's unpractical to wake up again just to turn it off). It's still very fine, it doesn't seem to have taken any damage by this. It's 6 years old now...

I would turn it off, wasting electricity, generation unwanted heat and it is just running down your components faster. If you are like me and download some torrents over night then I would suggest a small laptop or windows based tablet and downloading them to your network shared NAS.

if its not doing anything turn it off and save the money. Plus when running 24/7 you have to think about overclock stability, hdd's wearing out etc.

I just put it to sleep when I'm not using it unless I'm downloading a big file or something. Good to save electricity.

Turn it off if you're not using it for something. Completely pointless keeping it on.

Electricity isn't free, in most cases.

Apart from if you are in Iceland

Why not run Folding@Hoempfel to harness the power of the computer when you are not using it. This will be beneficial to Disease research but will cost you a small amount in Electricity depending on the power usage of your system.
