Hi, I'm new here so, excuse me.
I'm planning to build a pc able to run the Oculus Rift, basic Game Developement stuff and also a whole lot of Gaming, and I'm stuck about choosing the Graphics Card, I'm planning to buy the MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G but I heard it will be too weak to my other parts so, I'm worried. Now my questions are: is there any card for 250$ with better performance? Will the MSI R9 380 GAMING 4G be better?

my planned parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MZyThM
- Intel i5-4670 (non-k series)
- Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard.
- Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
- NZXT Phantom 410 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case (the card must be less than 300mm long)
- Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
- 2x NZXT Air Flow Series 83.6 CFM 140mm Fan. (to replace the blue fans and get some red going on)

I prefer a card from the MSI Gaming series (the twin frozr ones).
BTW, my budget is 850$.

..that it will be too weak for your other parts..

I'm sorry but there's always a "slowest part" and you just shouldn't be concerned by it. Yes the 380 performs better, if you want more performance, get a 380. If you are satisfied with the performance or features the 960 has, get the 960.

The 960 4GB and the 380 4GB are to all intents and purposes the same thing, but with a different company's branding on it. If you buy one over the other it should be because it's cheaper, not because you think you're gaining any performance.

Buy a 4440 and a H81 motherboard and don't bother buying fans for aesthetic reasons. The money that saves you should be enough to push you into 970 or 390 territory.

I would push up towards a R9 390 for the extra vram and power ( oculus having two 1080p+ screens )

Something like a H97 and less expensive accessories should let you do this

Also the phantom can have the HDD cage removed to allow long GPU's

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

Get cheaper MBO, and if you are on tight budget don't pay extra for the looks, get NZXT source or something, better PSU and you could get GTX970 or even 390X if you get cheaper i5.

nah, I like the looks. For the motherboard I need a lot of usbs so that's why i picked it, I don't understand a lot about it.

R9 380 would perform better than 960....

and, why are you picking a Z series mobo for a locked processor? a good B85 board is pleanty enough for your every need....

I don't understand a lot about motherboards, it was the only one I found with 4 USB 2.0 and 4 USB 3.0 connecters in the back. And it's red so it suits my theme

oh nice, I don't really care about the features, as long as it works on the oculus rift and it runs my monitor and plays my games.

Oculus is very demanding, you will loose a lot of performance by going for the looks.

Also you could use USB hub.

THANK YOU ALL FOR ANSEWRING.

yeah good idea but still, the 970 and the 390 are 350$ on amazon and locally the prices are higher than Amazon.

like I said, I'm gonna run the Oculus Rift and an XBOX 360 controller and a lot of usb devices all the time. I picked that Motherboard because it has enough USB's. Yeah I know about the HDD cage.
Good idea, I'm gonna look into it because I'm more confused then ever.

you are going to have two another USB3.0 port on your chassis from the Mobo....

also CX series from Corsair are not that good, try

      Cooler Master G550M ~75$

      SeaSonic S12G 550W ~70$

as you will be gaming a lot, try getting a R9 290 4GB DDR5, you will find them within 300$

keep in mind that, Gtx 960 and 970 has 3.5GB of DDR5 vram and anohter slow 512mb memory.....

Yeah, 2xUSB 3.0 and 2xUSB 2.0 on the case + 4 of each type on the back. It should be enough

I don't really care about the Power supply, as long as it works so I got the cheapest.

Yeah I heard about that. but I'm gonna stretch out to get a Nvidia GTX 970 4GB TWIN FROZR.(not a fanboy but most games are optimized for nvidia + they have been working with the oculus team now) here's my current plan: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BVvkt6

you will have stuttering issues when your Gpu Vram reaches 3.5gb

see

Cool Graphs, I'm gaming at 1920x1080, Disabling MSAA would cut that in half or even more. I have no interest in using it. I'm definetly not planning on maxing out all games, just enough to get a good experience because anything is better than my current build.

Intel i3-2100

AMD RADEON 6450

4GB RAM
