 Can larger amounts of heat cause wear and tear to them? Curious as to whether that could cause an increase in VRM temps after 1 instance of higher temps.

If they overheated then yes they could melt and degrade. Rather common issue btw if you screw something up hardcore.

I haven't had them overheat but at one point furmark was ran for about 50 mins on an open case. (not my doing) - temps probably got around 80-90*C - no overheating shutdown was triggered tho.

If shutdown was triggered it probably overheated. I would check to make sure either way.

That shouldn't be a problem most thermal pads will never have issues since the temps aren't that high, most can handle say a couple hundred degrees celsius.

 

As for the shutdown I'm not sure, double check things just in case.

It's not the pads themselves (although I've seen them melt), but the glue definitely can cause deformation and or a loss of proper contact if spotted high temperatures develop.

No shutdown was triggered - it was fine and shut down normally by the user after stopping furmark - it didn't overheat.

Then nevermind I thought you said it shutdown (as in irregularly.)

Hah, I noticed I had added a "t" to the "no" - ghost ftw!

Anyway, if it didn't overheat it's likely the glue weaking then?

Not at 4C above normal. Those pads should be good well into the 100-130 C range (glue included.)

Weird then really - temps didn't use to go above 70*C but then again I hadn't run valley and I'm not sure how the older drivers/patches affected Witcher 3 so all I have are assumptions.

Core maxes out at 70*C atm and VRMs at 72*C

My paranoia has grown so big I am starting to imagine things

The corners of my eyes see stuff that's not there - mind over matter I tell myself as if I were seeing artifacts they would not appear once in a blue moon but stay constantly.
