BIOS fan control

SmileAsTheyDie

Hello all. I recently got some noctua ppc fans for my case. I installed them and i went in to my bios to change the fan speed. My bios fan control looks like the one shown in this video:

though an issue i have ran into is i cant make the duty cycle any lower than 60% which leaves the fans running at 1500 rpm (which is a bit to audible for my tastes), if i try to go any lower than 60% i get a "invalid input range" message. Anybody know why this might be?

3pin fans? Try selecting powering mode as DC for them. If they are PWM, select PWM. With some BIOS controls (Seen this on MSI before), you can't go lower than 60% with 3pin fans. Thats 5V. Software allows you to go all the way down to 30%.

They are 4 pins. There is no area to select between DC or PWM

Ok. Is BIOS latest version? And does header support PWM?

Go to the Asus website, select your motherboard, in the downloads you should be able to download fan xpert 2, which is great at controlling fans attached to the mobo.

Select your OS and download AI Suite 3, it should have a software fan controller included. You can find it on utilities.

Yes. I believe so.

Really weird. Can you adjust it better with software controls like Fan Xpert3?

I downloaded it but there was no fan software in the installer.

Odd...what about BIOS profile? sometimes you can even do fan curves on the BIOS...

You install the entire AI suite III it self it has overclocking, USB charge control stuff and all that included. With it comes Fan xpert that allows you to go in and control each fan header.

Ok. after i did the "fan tuning" i was able to control it and lower it down to 40% (which according to it translates to 800RPM).

Do you think there is any way to get the bios to be able to have more control?

Im not a fan (lol) of having a bunch of process running using up resources just so i can control my fan's

Unfortunately for AI suite it needs to run in the background to have temp control fan curves the BIOS only has a really general set of speeds they allow, I don't think they integrate temperature controllable fan curves in the BIOS on the Z87 boards.

I dont really care about curves but just having a lower % option. AI suite allows me to go as low as 800 RPM while bios only allows as low as 1500 RPM.
