Windows 32bit to 64bit?

Go to solution Solved by MatthewEnderle,

Wait, are you saying that it may be possible to get my key renewed? So in theory I could remove my win 7 partition from my iMac and put it on my new PC? Is it so? There is no way that could be free :/

Yes, on the mac type this in the windows CMD (admin level) to remove the key from the mac.

slmgr -upk

Call Microsoft and follow the system to activate windows. You might even just beable to install with the key right away and you'll be good. IDK I havn't done this since XP as I have 500 keys for Windows 7 and 10

Hello, I am building a gaming rig and I need windows, I was wondering about something. but first lets get into my situation

I bought a copy of Windows 7 home premium and was given both a 64Bit and a 32Bit disk. The 64Bit version of Windows is running in a bootcamp partition on my iMac.

I was wondering if I would be able to use that 32Bit disk in my new PC? Is my product key only good for 1 of the 2 the disks? Is the 32Bit disk useless now that the 64Bit one was activated? And I was also wondering that, if the disk can be put into the new PC and be activated, could I upgrade to windows 10 but somehow get the 64Bit version?

Thanks for any help you can give. I Doubt Microsoft would let me do this but I don't know thats why Im asking you guys.  :)

Windows comes with both 32 and 64 bit versions, but only one key, if I remember correctly.  So it's really the key that matters, not the disks they send, if you have only one key you can only do one install of either the 32 or 64 version but not both.

@DrMacintosh

But you can call M$ and get the key renewed by saying you are moving to a new system.

If you remove 64-bit from your Mac you can install it again. Installing 32-bit is pointless.
