sli with different clock speeds

Lukep11

Information i was able to find was conflicting and sometimes quite old. So wanted a definitive answer.

If i SLI an EVGA 980 TI hybrid with an MSI 980 TI 6gb Gaming.

- Will it work since base and boost clock speeds are different on each card?

- Will it cause any stuttering?

- Can both cards be over clocked individually to try and match base and boost clock speeds?

- Which of the two cards should i have in the first slot?

Thanks

Yes

Stuttering will exist but that is a dual card "issue"

Yes

I'd overclock one or the other to the same clock speeds. That way there isn't any stuttering, but two different gpus look so fugly...

Stuttering will exist but that is a dual card "issue"

'issue' ? Please elaborate. How much stuttering, under what circumstances? If i get identical cards in sli, will there still be stuttering?

I use quotations because some tend to blow it (SLI in general) out of proportion. Micro-stuttering is greater with dual card configurations, but has been mitigated in recent years.

It will be present with identical cards as well. There's nothing you, the user, can do to prevent it. You can lessen it by using a single card, but if you actually require the power of 980ti SLI then no single card can currently replace them.
