So...

I've been planning this for a few months and my intention for this system is to futureproof it for all the way through college, so that I can focus my extra money (lol "extra") on things like my car etc.

Now that Skylake and Z107 is out, should I change the Haswell to Skylake in case I do need to upgrade?

You'll be fine with that system, Skylake is only if you have the extra money, which it sounds like you don't at the moment. I personally say Don't Upgrade, CPU's tend to go out of date every 4 generations as some people still use i7 9**'s

Hell my i5 2500k (With overclock) is still pretty competitive with the new i5 6600k (Stock clocks)

Not much of a significant increase in performance to Skylake, for your intended college years use Haswell will be completely fine, by the time you will need to upgrade there will most likely be a much more significant upgrade. Youll be spending much more on Skylake when you dont really need to.

Edit:

Forgot to comment on main topic, but others kinda already said it... Not really worth the $$$. It's just more of a... "I OWN SKYLAKE!" kind of thing.

You could probably get a cheaper board. That one seems a bit overpriced.

Unless you are just a die hard Nvidia fan, much like myself, the 390 is better than the 970.

Are those Noctua Fans Static pressure fans? They look like they have a higher CFM, but it might not be designed for pushing air through a radiator. (I'm not sure.)

It doesn't look like you are trying to achieve any kind of build theme, so why spend the extra money on White Memory?

You have gold/black motherboard, bronze/black/blue video card, Noctua's signature ugly super effective fans, White memory, blue leds... idk just seems like a hodgepodge of shit. xD

I'll throw you this build, I changed things up quite a bit, and I'll tell you why...

CPU Cooler - You chose the Define R5 which is known for it being quiet, but then you stuck a AIO cooler in it, which are known for being on the loud side, especially since you have to take off 2 of the top panels on the case to let the air flow out the top, which adds less noise dampening to the case. So I ditched it and got a quiet cooler, that looks good, and works very well.

Motherboard - The one you chose will work, but it just seemed overpriced for what it's doing for you. I noticed you didn't theme the build that much, so I did spend about $10 extra on making sure it was MSI and Red/Black.

Memory - You chose something a bit more expensive and white, which I don't feel matched anything other than it might look pretty cool cause most of you components were black... idk I picked the Kingston savage because it's red, has a cas of 9 instead of 10. It's got a good ratio Mhz to Cas. Just seems like the right choice.

Video Card - You have the gtx 970, which is a great card, but test have proven the 390 to be better, I picked up the MSI version to round out the build.

Case Fans - I ditched the fans, although you could still get some fans and put them in the case.

You could change all the cables to Red and the LED strip to red as well....

All in all, the build I made is about $100+ cheaper, should perform a bit better, and will be quieter, all while maintaining a nice red/black MSI theme.

Wow thanks m8. In no order, here's my defense to your points.

The Noctuas aren't for the rad - they're for front intake. I'll keep the CM stock fans on the AIO.

The cooler: I haven't heard of anyone saying that AIOs are loud in this case. I'll look into it.

I agree with you on the memory, I'll look for something cheaper (it was the best/cheapest at the time of making the partslist)

The theme is definitely going to be black and blue, lol sorry but I won't change that xD

ah ok about those noctuas.

Don't forget, the cooler requires you to take off the top noise dampeners so you can exhaust through the top with the radiator, so you will get a tad bit of noise from it.

I'll try to make a black and blue. brb. :D

@SleathX1

Here ya go, fits your Black/Blue theme much better, not as cheap as the Red/Black version, but still as powerful.

Why Gigabyte R9 390? It benchmarks better than the 970 and also has more VRAM. Also it has a black look w/Blue led lighting on the card.

But of course if you don't want AMD, just get the EVGA 970, it seems to have the nice black and Blue you are going for.
