skylake build for gaming

MikeyStyle

Budget & Location: don't really have a budget, just went with what made sense to me. will be purchasing parts in canadian dollar

Aim: gaming on ultra settings with 60 fps! that and also watching videos. it's sin to play games on low (which is what i'm currently doing for grand theft auto v)

Monitors: will be connecting with two monitors. one at 1920x1080 (secondary - hdmi) and the other at 2560x1080 (primary - displayport)

Peripherals: already have all the peripherals i need

Why are you upgrading?: last computer i built was in 2006. still using it now, lol. currently a q6600 (2.4 ghz) with 8 gb of ram and a geforce gtx 660 ti

ignore the video card on the list, i'll actually be getting a 980 ti hybrid instead. pcpartpicker didn't have the price available to choose

any feedback is welcomed! been out of the game for quite a while

Wow shit is expensive in canada...

Also that build is insane overkill for 1080p.

Agreed.

Or if you are near the border, have you considered buying in the US lol? nearly 1K CAD is so freaking much for a 980 ti

and an i7 5820k is cheaper than a skylake i7 and it also has 2 more cores

and you can get a x99 motherboard for about $250-300 which would be a lot less than what you're spending on that motherboard

so i think that you should get a x99 system because it's cheaper and better performing in games

Buying in the US would require a week long stay over the border to bring back any expensive items (980ti) legally.  Also, unless the OP has American funds the exchange rate will still apply and still be expensive.  It would be better to buy in Canada at that point, or wait and see if oil prices rise and the dollar rebound.  I'm also in Canada and it is just stupid expensive to buy into Skylake here.

Here's what I would do for 1080p high setting gaming : http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/HKTFkL

under $1700 and should have no trouble gaming.

I would suggest a few changes.

Go with a 2x8GB memory kit. This will leave two memory slots free for upgrading and put marginally less strain on the memory controller.

I would suggest a Samsung SM951 4 lane M.2 ssd. Up to 4 times faster than a SATA III connected drive. If 512GB is not enough, add a 1TB ssd or hdd as budget dictates.

The EVGA 220-G2-0850-XR psu is less expensive and arguably better than the AX750. 850W is needed if one plans on adding a second gpu. Otherwise, go with a 650W unit like SeaSonic SSR-650RM or EVGA 220-G2-0650-Y1.

With the three fans provided by the gpu and cpu coolers and two stock fans, there really is no need for additional fans.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Does it really? Good lord, I didn't realize the CAD had slipped to 1.3 on the dollar. I was thinking more like 1.1.
