Hi all,

I'm building my first pc, and i was wondering if it is legal to use a copy of windows 10 from the MSDN Academic Alliance (a.k.a. Dreamspark premium) for private use (because i can get it for free there). I've already seen quite a few similar discussions and articles which either contradict each other or give a very vague answer.

If anyone can give me a defenitive answer or a link to a trustworthy source with the answer that would be helpful.

Nope, it is against the terms of service, meaning that yes it's illegal on the technicality that saying you agree by checking the box is legally binding.

I would swerve because it could mean you lose your MSDN account which would be really bad.

My employer spent £24000 on an MSDN subscription for me so I would be sacked if I used it improperly.

Illegal implies this is a criminal issue. It's just a terms of service violation, a civil issue.

Yes. As an MSDN subscriber I can guarantee you that nothing will stop you from using the key for private use.

Thanks for your replies,

I found out that, unfortunatly, you can only use software and OS's downloaded from dreamspark for educational use :(
