don't taske a Z97 board if you are noit planning to overclock. You don't even have a K type processor included.

EDIT: will follow up with complete built

Used to be. Now it's medicore in comparison to others, as well as being conductive. Both MX-2 and MX-4 are better and none conductive.

Oh fair enough, I've just used it in all my builds and never had a problem with it

It's not bad, but it's fallen behind in recent years, but people haven't realised (because who really keeps up to date with the latest TIM?) and till swear by it.

I never liked it because of how it's conductive, but now it's beaten by a lot of other TIM (as far as TIM goes, there's still only a few degrees difference between the best and worst)

I might not overclock though because im not sure how to

Then don't get a Z-Board or water-cooling

Z-boards were made for overclocking, and you might as well go for an I5 if you're not overclocking the I7

Tip: Search for overclocking guides, they will help out a lot

What does overclocking do? can it not effect the processor or damage it? Sorry I have not looked into overclocking at all

Z-Boards are made for overclocking yes, but they also usually come with more features than the other mobos. And getting an i5 if youre not overclocking? Dumbest thing I've seen in a while.

Only Z97s

The others... you better don't if you don't want to fry your mosfets after 1 minute of load.

You increase voltage and clock of your prcoessor increasing heatoutput and performance. Fo gaming I wouldn't go for an i7 an i5 4690K is enough and if you are to lazy to get into OC you can always do it later because it is a K chip and you dont need it as of how it is now.

EDIT: you can danamage your hardware if oyu don't know what you are doing so I'd reccommend reading a lot about it first and always being getnyl when trying things out. Like when you first learn driving a car... you don't go full throttle the first day.

He is gaming

And gaming will not require the I7 as much, unless you play heavily multi threaded games (which are rare, eg; AAA MMOs)

An I7 is more suitable for balancing CAD capabilities and gaming performance

An I5 will be a better buy if you do gaming alone, because it can still handle games as well as an I7

Multi-threads are also available in the Xeon E3s at nearly the same clock speeds for only $250

From this article it shows that most games will only receive a 2-4 fps difference when I5 is overclocked to match the I7:

Go for the 4790K, get a good Z97 Motherboard and you can let it overclock for you.

Overclocking is basically making the frequency higher, f.ex. you have a 4GHz CPU, and then you overclock it to 4.5GHz, this 0.5GHz is an increase and will get you some better performance. But with a bigger heatoutput, so you would need a better cooler.

I overclocked my CPU from 3.7GHz to 4GHz, and could probably go up to 4.2GHz quite easy.
