@Volbet

I would say yes, others also like to use Kombustor which also work well, it's mainly preference.

I seem to get artifacting when boosting my mem clock to +250 but I have a stable core clock at +160. Do I just have to up the mV for the mem clock also?

You can try to see if it helps sometimes increasing voltage will help, but there are a lot of factors that can affect overclockability. Do remember to keep an eye on temps and keep them below 85C ideally.

My temps were reaching a maximum of 71 degrees :) Would it help to lower the core clock and boost the memory clock or are those 2 separate factors?

That I don't know actually, I believe it would be a good idea to keep them balanced with more emphasis on core clock.

Some chime in in this?

I managed to rack up 61 fps on average at the end of benchmarking on unigine heaven without coming across artifacting an reaching a maximum of 71 degrees. I would say that is pretty great because I got like 54-55 without an overclock. I am going to try some games now. If i crash in a game should I just lower the core clock by 10 and continue playing and see if it crashes?

EDIT; The games Im playing dont seem to be liking the overclock... getting the same crash... crap

Is it unsafe to just max the voltages right off the bat because I am having trouble finding the sweet spot and I am crashing constantly in games but not in benchmarks.

For the GTX970 yes it's safe even if you max it it won't ever go that high due to the limit built in place, it usually varies a little from between 1.250-1.265V from what I've seen even maxed out.

Ok also this value doesn't change from 0 mV is that normal? https://gyazo.com/4cd0240de6fc84782145e6a58b25d7ce

Hmm MSI afterburner?

Did you enable in the settings to unlock voltage control and restart your computer. I haven't used the new UI on it so I don't know if that's normal.

Sorry about going AFK, but I needed some beauty sleep (God knows I need it)

The voltage meter in MSi Afterburner seems to be broken since the latest update, atleast, for me.

Try enableing the MSi Afterburner OSD, and make it monitor the GPU voltage. This should monitor the GPU voltage, atleast when you are in a game.

Edit: To monitor the voltage you also have to check the box that says ´Unlock voltage monitoring´ in the Afterburner settings. Make you that has been done aswell.

That sounds really strange. Have you tried monitoring how the GPU clock acts while you benchmark the card? You can enable that in the MSi Afterburner OSD aswell.

Hmm, as I see it there are two options left. Either the card is a dud and you have lost the silicone lottery, or there is something wrong with the settings in Afterburner.

The first option, we can't really do anything about.

The second options is, of course, fixable. Try returning every value, be it core clock, memory clock and/or core voltage, back to the factory settings.

Then you move your way up from there.

I can't really use the charts for anything, since what I would need is a real time measureing (or atleast something close to it).

It's good to see that it doesn't fluctuate, but what I really want to see is if the the the voltage, core clock and memory clock actually hit the desired clock speeds.

It's not all cards that act the same.

I don't know about the red bar, since I haven't played around with the new Afterburner.

You could try, but I don't think it would help.

You could try that.

But be aware, that not all cards are as accepting of overvoltage as others. That the maximum is a hardware lock (most likely it's proably a BIOS lock, but I digress) doens't matter.

Seems fine to me.

However, I will still say that +140MHz is a pretty agressive overclock.
