Hi,

My H100i cpu cooler from Corsair is emitting a high pitch whining sound most of the time.

It seemed to start when I replaced the stock fans with their SP120 red led fans.

After some testing, I have found that the whine sometimes happens with the stock fans, but not as much. Also, when I plugged a 200mm fan into the H100i, there was no sound.

The new fans and the 200mm are non-PWM and the stock fans are.

Any ideas for how to fix it?

Thank you

EDIT: connecting the 200mm again produced a whine, it was just softer.

Is it the fans or is the pump going out?

Pump is in the block that attaches to the cpu...

Non-PWM fans run at max speeds...which makes them loud, if not whiney. try taking grounding it, it should behave after that haha... jokes.

Running PWM is better. you can set the speed low, so it can be quieter...also the whining could be the pump, but only way to tell is to isolate what makes noise. best way is to take out all fans, and GPU, and run it only in BIOS. see if it whines. if it does...it's the pump.

the stock corsair fans and pressure fans of corsair are known to have a annoying pitch sound when u pushpull them

stick with other fans like sickleflows for example ( got no issues with them )  or noctua fans and what not

either that... or dont use pushpull configuration

the sound is created by the push fan blowing air onto the pull fan that creates an vibration in the air due to the pressure and all and on those corsair fans it sounds like wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii ( most annoying fans ive ever seen btw those corsair ones haha )

I was just about to add that. The pump seems to be the source of the whine.

I can still control the speed of the non-PWM fans and so far (excluding the whine) they seem to be about the same.

Try going into Corsair Link and you can turn the pump to a higher flow rate. The faster the pump = higher noise, and that'll help determining a bit...

being able to control non-PWM onboard is not logical....it's Facade. you can't actually change the speed in non-PWM fans/pumps.

and I called it.... nothing you can really do about it. :( Unless of course, you just ask for an RMA.

just going push right now, not pushpull

if that doesnt solve it try without any fan on the rad at all, if its all quiet then gg its the fans, if empty rad aint quiet its the pump and i would just rma that h100i, it doesnt work like it should be the pump makes sounds wich is bad... rma it u got ur rights and warranty > get a new h100i and problem solved, a whining pump isnt a healthy pump and a great reason to rma a cooler/closed loop cooler

if ur 100% sure its the pump... rma ... i think its the fans tho coz it shouldnt make a difference wether u use fans on ur rad or not... for the pump atleast

Its up to you what you want to do....you want to try getting PWM fans and see if it helps?

Do you want to try and get an RMA for the cooler to see if it was a fault in the pump?

or is the whine not high and annoying enough to worry about?

nothing we can do RN... those are your options.

That is one thing that is bothering me about this.

I've had the thing for like 6 months and the problem started with the new fans, but is now extending to the old ones sometimes too.

Maybe your being a bit paranoid? try putting the old ones back in, leaving the computer off for a few hours, or until you forget about the whole problem, then go back and turn it on....if you don't hear anything, it was your mind doing the whining.

voltage controlled is PWM...you sure your classifying your fans right? does it have 3 pin holes in the female connector, or 4?

P.S. 3PINS=non-PWM 4PINS=PWM

PWM alternates between the full voltage and nothing and controls it by changing the timing of on vs off. When I say voltage control, I mean supplying a lower/higher voltage.

The new are 3 pin, the old are 4 pin

the old ones are PWM, the new ones are not PWM. simple as that. how you are able to change the speed is beyond what I know RN. if you or anyone else can figure that out, I would love to know :)
