Budget Upgrades

I'm helping my little brother upgrade system, because its time..
He currently has:

i5 2320 running stock 3ghz

gtx 450

500gb hdd

So far I've got him an asus 960, a 500gb ssd, and I'm stuck betweeen two processors at the moment..
I have an i7 4765t at 2.00ghz  and a pentium g3258 overclockedd to 4.6ghz.
He's only going to use the system  for gaming, so I was leaning towards the pentium and giving him my old z97 board.

Suggestions?

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.

yep the higher clock would be beneficial in most games

most games can scale to 4 cores now so I would just give him the i7 4765t. the pentium needs to be oc'd to like 4.4ghz+ just to hit the performance of an i3.

The pentium is at 4.6ghz  on a little 212 evo, would you think in gaming applications only it would be worse for games than the i7??

Usually I'd always say the i7 would win, but he's only going to be playing games like counterstrike.. Nothing really that cpu  intensive.

No rendering or video editing.

I guess really I could set both up and see which wins, sorry went on a tangent lol

I don't really play demanding games mostly battlefield and call of duty I sold my Xbox to get in to PC gaming so I'm on a budget of about 100 bucks to spend on the processer and I don't really want to pick up something used

I have a gt 730 graphics card it's not great but it does what I need it to do but if I got a better card will my gaming experience increase. With this graphics card I'm maxing out my processer so is there any point on getting a better graphics card if my processer is getting maxed out with a cheap one

You'd notice a more immediate boost with a graphics card, as most games are more gpu heavy. Not every game mind you, but I personally think you'd be better off upgrading graphics before cpu.

I hear 950ti is coming soon, so holding out for that and seeing what that has to offer would be my recommendation.

If you need a new gpu now the 750ti is ~$130-150usd or if you prefer AMD you could get the r7 370 for ~$150usd

Both the 950ti and r7 370 are about a hundred fifty and that'll bring performance up and give you access to modern gpu capbilties

I wouldn't change from athalon to pentium honestly..
I don't want to start a flame war, but I do prefer intel.... That being said the two are basically going blow for blow, and the performance gain would be negligible
