So I received a call from a family member telling me that they couldn't sign into their PC after they upgraded to windows 10. They said that they had to change their outlook password and in the process they must have changed it to something else and not realized what they changed it to. Recovering the password didn't work and we're running out of options. If all else fails I'm thinking of trying to brute force my way in, but I really know nothing about the process. If anyone could recommend some software and explain how to use it that would help a ton.

Brute force password cracking is really not a very effective method, unless their password was something stupid like "apple".

There are utilities that will actually remove (erase) the password all together, without trying to crack it.

One such utility is on the "Active@ Boot Disk Suite" software package. It does cost money though, but it's very effective for Windows 7. I have yet to try it on Windows 8 or 10.

How would he then change the password after getting that far?

Doesn't CMD ask you to enter the old password when setting a new one?
