Windows 10 UI problem

Go to solution Solved by Jewish-Man,

Sorry for the necro but I can confirm that this is most likely related to Nvidia's driver. Restarting explorer.exe does not resolve the issue for me, but disabling my GPU driver and Re-enabling it in device manager is a hotfix.

I posted this in the Operating Systems Forum and have had no luck, heres to hoping I get better luck here.

This is kind of difficult to explain. It doesn't do this right after startup, but some time after. When right clicking, instead of showing the white menu with all of your options, it shows an outline of where the menu would be and anything inside that outline is transparent. This also applies to clicking to save in word/snipping tool, the outline is there but it is a transparent box with an outline only.

Also, some programs like steam have freezing issues. Steam itself isn't actually frozen, just visually it appears to be. If I type "hello" into steam and then hit enter, it won't appear like I had every typed anything, but it does go through. If I minimize the window and then bring it back up, it updates to show that I sent the message.

I'm sorry I can't think of better ways to explain this.

Has anyone else had this problem? I should note that this is a Windows 10 install on top of an old Windows 8.1 install. I'm saving up for an Intel 750 drive so I don't plan on wiping my current stuff clean before that.

Don't forget to follow your topics  :P

Also, are your display drivers updated? Could be a problem with that.

I uninstalled my video driver and reinstalled it. The issue still remains.

Please note that I was using the latest nVidia driver in both cases.

open a command prompt as administrator and type in - SFC /SCANNOW.

If it finds issues it will tell you after its finish and that it either fixed the issues or it failed to fix the issue, Or it will find no violations. If however it does repair some things, do a restart and run it 2-3 times like this in a row.

I ran it once and it returned with "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". I restarted and ran it a second time just to be sure and got the same response.

you'll probably have to wait then to fix it

keep in mind you could do the clean install now..then just clone it to the new intel 750

EDIT: I lied, it just happened again, it just took longer to occur. An even better way to describe this issue would be to say that the UI is just super laggy more than anything. It takes forever for steam chat windows, for example, to load and update the text that I type into the windows.

The issue seems to have fixed itself. This doesn't happen anymore.

I had this issue to. (with my upgraded Windows and with the now fresh install) Restarting the explorer.exe is a hotfix if it occurs.

My guess is that it is nvidia driver related. (since the Windows 10 drivers from nvidia are still garbage right now)

I had it a several times, when i was watching anime via a heavy gpu accelerated player and playing a game at the same time. Setting the player to single GPU solved my problems.

If that is a wide spread issue it should be known and there should be a fix on the way.
