Hello, soon I will do my first build, I will use it for gaming and for some multimedia work.

1. Budget & Location

$1500ish~ USD,but this must include a monitor and keyboard.

2. Aim

Gaming: Modded Skyrim, GTAV, and other single player games, im not into competitive gaming.

Multimedia: Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, light use of Premiere. This semester I will start with 3D modeling, rendering and animation, but im not sure what software I will be using.

Music recording/production. My actual laptop does this alright, so I think whatever this build ends being it will be okay.

Probably some game streaming, but not a priority.

3. Monitors

I will run 2 monitors, and I will buy one of them using this budget. I would like to have a 1440p monitor as my main monitor and gaming. My other screen is 1080p and I would use it as a secondary screen.

4. Peripherals

I need to get a keyboard( most likely a G710) and a monitor. I also need windows.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My current pc(a laptop) has been not too good lately, and with the work I will have from school this semester it will be worse.

I don't care too much about noise or looks, so color coordination or a case with a window are not important things.

Ok, so I went to http://choosemypc.net/ and put a budget of $1000ish~ and changed some things to the build it gave me. I upgraded the ram(8 to 16gb), added the cheapest 1440p monitor I could find, upgraded the graph card( 390 to 390X) and went with a cheaper case.

Is this build good? Will it tun games at 1440p? Anything should change?

I changed up the motherboard, went for an ATX. This gives you a few more pci slots for expansion, and I personally like the size better for working with. As for the hdd, I went for a very reliable Hitachi, one company that uses 1000s of consumer drives for enterprise applications reported that these had the lowest failure rate for 2tb. Ignore the gpu, just the ASUS was more expensive. Either way for that, you should be fine. The Fractal Core 2300 is a good choice, as it comes with 2 fans vs the core 1100s 1 fan, so better airflow, will keep more dust out. As for the PSU, went for the same one, but a fully modular design for the same price, better cable management, less airflow obstruction (Not a huge factor, but why not for the same price?)

I like good humans and good food

Thanks for your answers guys.

I would like Windows 10 but have been having lots of problems with the update i did on my laptop. Do you think it would work well on the new build?

I  make the changes colinreay suggested, they seem logical :).

Is this rig capable of overclocking? I know I would need to add better cooling, but is the hardware suitable?

I have a question:

I watched a Tek Syndicate's video where Logan says he uses a Xeon E3-1230 V3 on his editing/gaming/capturing pc. He says it basically its an i7 without the onboard graphics.

I checked and it uses the same socket, so it should fit.

Using that cpu would be good? The build is a couple hundred dollars cheaper with it, for some reason.

I would use the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 as cpu cooler.
