Do I need to reactivate Windows if I'm reinstalling?

Hi everyone,

 

I recently got the go to update to Windows 10, however whenever I try to update , it always reboots back to the desktop with my current version of Windows installed. I did some digging around and apparently, my PC is missing some key OS files, and I assume I can't upgrade unless I have all the files I need. I've decided to do a reinstall of Windows, however I'm not sure how the process should go. I'm going to boot off a USB and will reinstall from there, however I'm not sure if I will need to put in my CD key again, as it should already be tied to the computer. Will I need to reactivate my CD- key if I'm reinstalling? Any help I can get is much appreciated!
