Get Now or Wait?

Go to solution Solved by No Nrg,

You really won't see much performance difference outside of a couple fps most likely. The cost of buying a new motherboard will far outway any benefit.

You don't gain anything by getting DDR4 support either. It's been proven time and again that faster RAM does not equal better game performance. Once again the cost difference between a quality set of DDR3 and a modest set of DDR4 defeats the purpose.

Was thinking of getting the i5 4690k or i7 4790k for a new build and then I saw on twitter about Skylake CPUs, is there any point in waiting for it to release or shall I just get the current versions now? Will there be a huge difference in performance compared to the current ones now?

Can anyone briefly list the advantages of Skylake over Devil's Canyon?

Thanks,

Sean.

Ultimately I'd say that the decision is yours based on the performance difference between those and your current hardware... If it's only a small upgrade, I'd say perhaps consider waiting and seeing how the prices are for the new stuff.

Worst case, you'd be paying the same for those if Skylake doesn't offer much, maybe they'd get slightly cheaper.

There won't be a huge difference, It's hard to tell if it is worth waiting but I think that buying 4690K/4790K is still not a bad idea.

its z170 btw :P

its not really that expensive

if you have money for z97 then you would probably haev money for z170

Will most likely be the standard %10 IPC improvement and Igpu upgrades. The Mobos will have more features though. Usb 3.1 NVME ssd's Ect.

ddr4 is expensive :)

Thanks a lot for the information guys, I think i'll wait it out and see the price differences between the processors and motherboards, and of course RAM. One thing I'm not looking forward to are the prices of DDR4 RAM :P

But yeah, I'll wait it out and see! :)

Thanks again,

Sean.
