Hi all so i am looking to upgrade my system and have couple of options/routes to go like we all do when upgrading, for a shake down i have an Intel core i3 530 @ 4.2GHz with a H60 cooler on an ASUS P7P55D mobo paired with an xfx 6850 and main boot drive is a WD Green 1TB and some where in there is 2x4gb g-skill 1600 RAM all powered by a CIT 650 Watt Gold PSU, now i am happy with my graphics card it does what i need it to, the main upgrade reason is to get SATA3 so i can run SSD/s as i am fed up with . . . ... . . . the green drive . . . . .. . loading times lol and update some other connectivity i.e USB3 etc so i happily have £250 could poss stretch it to £300 but no more any way now with all that out the way here is my idaea

replace my current mobo to an ASUS P7P55D-E LX, overclock the cpu move the RAM & Graphics card and cooler over and enjoy lovely fast read write speed with sata3 and usb3 etc

here is the options 1) get 1xsamsung 840 256GB drive or 2) get 2x840 120GB drives and RAID0 them plus then i still have the WD green which i can then set-up as a backup drive to my JBOD drive array (1.5tb+1tb+500gb(plus the wd green which is corrently my boot drive) which has all downloaded content on it, nothing important i keep that on an external caddy drive, so the WD green is just being used as OS drive so if i were to RAID 2x120gb then i don't care if they fail or what ever and the JBOD is fine as i migrated that over from my old PC, and then again as i said i have an external drive for important docs and pics and then i can use the WD as a back-up drive

thoughts & input very welcome

Intel Core i3 530 Clarkdale @ 4.82 Ghz ! :D 64.5% O.C !

Daily @ 4.2 Ghz ;) 43.8 % O.C

Intel® Core™2 Duo E6320 Stock @ 1.86 Ghz --->> OCed to 2.97 Ghz 60 % O.C !

i wouldn't bother with storage upgrades before a new CPU to be honest, nice OC on it, but it'll start lagging behind soon enough.

Do you even know what you're talking about? Something like an i5 in the middle of the road would be MORE than enough for games and daily use.

i dont know what cpu you think of

Is that not a last gen Xeon? In all fairness, people are better off buying mainstream AMD/Intel parts unless they're content creation professionals/servers. they're called "mainstream" processors for a reason.

Just get a single Samsung 840 250GB. Skip the pro--the difference in performance is negligible but it's much cheaper.

hi there all, first off thanks for all the input

thanks for the compliment on the OC i'v had it to 4.8GHz with HT on and ran several benchbarks with a hyper 212 air cooler with dual fans did get rather toasty though but with the h60 4.2 daily is easy, idle about 30-32, prime95 loads about ealry/mid 50s, game loads mid 40s :D any way enough babble about that

ok so iam now going to get a new cpu and mobo then would like an i5 with overclocking potential because i know i don't need an i7 and am a bit of an asus fanboy with this build inced this is my 4th asus mobo so moving on

what i plan to get is a 3rd gen i5 3570k http://goo.gl/mI0EIT and a Asus P8Z77-V Pro http://goo.gl/pY8G5a

and from what i gather it has raid0 capability on at least 2 of the sata3 6GBs ports if any one can double check that much appricated because then later in 2-3 months i shall then get something along the lines of 2 840 pro 256GB SSDs and raid0 them :)

what do people think about that then ?
