Well you can see that Google Fiber started in small cities. If Google Fiber would come to California, 1) it would be to expensive, and 2)they won't join the competition. And there are already many ISP's here. Maybe 1% of California will get Google Fiber.

But the ISP's here are trash.

Highly doubt California would be anytime soon if ever, as someone else already stated it would be expensive and there are a bunch of isp's already there, so by the time they had actually rolled there fiber out, those isp's would have already been upgrading there infrastructure to compete, making Google's profits drop dramatically.

California has a lot of regulations and such that make it difficult to expand to. Google has already considered California (Google itself is based in Silicon Valley you know ;)) but they have no plans to expand Google Fiber there so far.

Okay, But were Do you think Google Fiber will start in California. San Diego, Sacramento, Bay area, North, South, Where? California is too big, for Google to start fiber here.

They want to give it to the ungrateful people in torn-up cities who know nothing as well

Google won't be able to compete with the ISP's here in California. Google fiber is too expensive. less than 1% of the population would even get fiber. Big companies won't even get it because it would cost to much to replace everything.

Do you think Kansas is just frozen in the 1850's or something? There's just as much of a modern civilization in Kansas as there is in California.

It's not about picking and choosing who to gove it to anyway, there's a lot of coordination with local governments involved in setting up Internet infrastructure, and it's easier in some states than others. California is one of the more difficult ones, Kansas was one of the least.

I'm not talking about Kansas as a whole, I'm talking about the very small parts in states like Kansas that are bad and I'm saying that I'm sick of these "feed the poor" things where the poor people gain an advantage on 1000 megabits/second downloads and amazing internet speeds. Especially the ones who go and beg for money every day on the streets and do nothing with their lives.

Google Fiber was set up in Kansas City and the surrounding area, the capital of Kansas, not small parts of the countryside.

I live in KC and have Google Fiber. It is awesome. But I also work in the industry and know what it takes to run new infrastructure. Constructions costs are only one aspect. Right of Ways and Easement issues play a big part in determining where Google can go.

What are you even on about?

Do you not get it? As a company I would choose a suburban or a less populated area for my project because A. It's much cheaper to deploy. B. There is no competition. C. Less regulations. The point is nobody is crazy enough to start pulling a whole new infrastructure to a city the size of a country. Many ISPs tried and failed miserably. Nobody likes competition.

You can't just come knocking and say I'm going to place fiber here. You have to rent out underground paths, you can dig your own but that's if you want to bankrupt. Then you need to survey is the area is good enough for you to invest a few million dollars. Then you need to make sure you meet all regulations which are usuallyt a pain in the ass to meet in large cities. And so on....

Atlanta's fibre construction is underway so I should get it within 10 years at least. Unless EPB (Chattanooga) beats them to the punch since i live smack dab in between those cities. Google wants allot of community support before it will start construction in a new city.

Lord of Helium.
