Is it okay to backup game data/saves and put it into another different OS?

For example, if I had a minecraft data windows 8.1 that I wanted to back up and put into my new computer that is windows 7...Would there be any complications? same question goes for any games

In some cases it even is fine as to keeping the whole game as it is. I once had to reinstall Win7 on my SSD and ended up redownloading not a single game since steam adn origin managed to just relocalize them all on my 2. drive.

Another example: My friends once just copied kerbal Space program onto an USB-stick and and gave it tome. I was like "dats not gonna work bro" but it did just fine surprisingly.

I can#T make any promises though. Good things happen but also bad things happen.
