Some of you may already have read my situation as I complain about it a lot. I'm in the process of selling off my iMac and haven't found anyone to buy it on Craigslist yet. I have enough money to buy all the parts for my computer (except the screen but I have someone I could use to get by). So, should I wait until I sell my iMac or buy my parts now? My father keeps telling me to wait until I sell my iMac because it may not sell. I would have ~$150-200 left in my bank account if I bought my parts. I'm kind of curious what you all think.

Sell the iMac first. It's not good to take the risk if you don't have to.

Bah thanks all, I just don't like having to be a mature 19 year old I guess. I have it up for $1050 on craigslist and would be happy with $900. I don't think anyone around here is really interested in this type of thing though >.<

You guys think I have it priced wrong?

It's a Mac. Add $500 on. Someone will buy it!

I'm joking - by the way.

On a serious note, I would say to wait until the new graphics cards are out. If you're going as high-priced as a 780, then maybe buy now, but if you're not planning on getting a 780, I'd wait and see what AMD have to offer with the new series. Don't get me wrong, the current series is freakin' epic (I have 3 x 7970s) and I love the power they produce, but the cards are nearing two years old now. That's old for computer tech. Can't wait for the next series, myself, though I really can't afford to be buying more graphics cards. Haha! Maybe I can sell them though, who knows.

I plan on getting a 7950 but I feel like the 9000 series will be out of my league in terms of $. I thought I'd one day take out my 7950 and slap in a 780.

Sell the iMac and by then AMD 9XXX will be out.

God I don't wanna wait that long :3

There's 4 months left of the year. Sounds scary to me. 9XXX should be out before the end of the year. October, I'd heard I think, so only two months. It's not long. And if 8 weeks to you is a long time, then fair enough, but usually I spend that long researching something before actually buying anything. Haha.

If you're going for a 7950, you won't be disappointed. But I wouldn't get a 7950 now to then get a 780 in a few months. You should give the 9XXX series a go too and not just grab the 780.

I have spent at least several weeks planning what I want. All I have purchase thus far though is my case because I got a good sale on it. Won't the 9000 series be too much for me on a 7950 budget?

A 9870 will likely be as much or less than a current 7950, and perform a bit better. (This speculation based on previous generations)
