Will I regret it if I attempt to install W10?

I do not want to run into any critical issues, data corruption, etc.

Will most of games and applications work okay? I was told I did not need to reformat anything.

I have really not been following the hype. What does W10 even look like? Is it more like Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 7?

I'm on Windows 7 Pro, so will that all carry over?

Honestly, just wait a week or two to upgrade, hopefully MS can iron out any last major bugs by them. All of my previous applications and games run fine for me. Windows 10 carries a flat design, so it looks more like Windows 8.1, with a clean UI. I'm pretty sure it will carry over.

If you want DX12..upgrade to Windows 10. If not, stay on Windows 7.

Microsoft is a business and generally new features are exclusive to new products. You can't expect the major selling points to be freely backward compatible . If this was the case, every version of Windows would be the same and there would be no reason to upgrade.

If you are worries about EULAs or stability, just wait. Upgrading to DX12 overnight is not going to instantly give you a 200% increase in performance.

It seems even when people are offered free shit, they still demand it be served on a silver platter.

Well... It's an OS from 2009. I personally highly doubt they're gonna push DX12 to it. Hell, Vista didn't even get DX11 when it rolled out as I remember.

Vista did get Direct X 11.

Also, mainstream support has been done for about 7 months now so... NO NEW FEATURES ARE COMING!!

Vista got Direct X 11 because it was only a gap of a few years, not 6!

However, Windows 8 or 8.1 will not be getting Direct X 12 as I hear it was specifically designed for 10 but could be wrong.

The W10 upgrade icon disappeared. It is still mentioned in the taskbar tray, but it physically will not show up.

my anxiety and OCD has gotten the better of me and I'm afraid I will need to upgrade within the next hour.

Will I need to clean install. A reformat of drives is not necessary? So it is basically just a simple installer? Everything should work alright?

Okay. I found that W10 splash screen in Windows update. Clicking the 'Reserve' option does not do anything. I have Windows Update enabled and set to automatic.

Don't know what's going on. I'm very anxious to try Windows 10, because of DX12 and the like, and I cannot wait. Why did the upgrade icon on the task bar disappear though?!!!
