Okay so I'm currently running a prime95 stress test on my 4690k oc to 4.8Ghz. I've not pushed this high before and id like to know what some warning signs I should be looking for as the test runs that would be telling me the cpu is in trouble or is begining to stress beyond its limit. I'm watching temp right now but do I need CPUZ up as well to watch other numbers? Its passed the 10min mark and is still running below 70c.

Try doing a long stress test run after finding the sweet spot per say, and see if it BSOD, usually 30mins to 1 hour is a good initial indicator but of course if you want perfect stability longer stress tests would be needed.

One thing use Adia 64 for stress testing prime 95 can put more than needed voltages on Haswell CPU's.

How will that effect the performance of the chip? Wouldn't that be better if it passes like the 30min to 1hour test at a higher voltage? If not good then link to Adia64 if its a free program please. The only one I've ever used is prime and it works good for me. O and just passed the 24 min mark with the 12k test passed and no BSOD yet. If its bad to use prime should I let the 30min test complete then download adia64 and do the longer 1+ hour test?

It's not recommended since it just puts more stress on the CPU than realistically possible giving a lot of users those 90C temps, if you are running on manual or fixed voltages however it makes no difference it's effect is only on auto and on adaptive voltage.

Here's the free trial for Adia 64:

Nope I'm on fixed at 1.3 currently. I've passed the 30min mark and passed the 8k self-test. Should I just leave it for 1 hour and let it do its thing? Also does it matter if my screensaver thing kicks on during the test or will it keep doing its thing?

Screen saver shouldn't really effect it just make sure the system doesn't go to sleep or hibernation in that time period, I'd let it keep going then.

I've got my screen saver set for 15 mins so I'm good there then. Should I let it finish the hour test then download Adia for the longer overnight test? Also should I disable my sleep function for the overnight test? O what happens if it crashes during the overnight test? Will the system be damaged if I don't shut it off right away or will I be fine to go to sleep and see it in the morning?

The system won't damage itself it will auto shutdown if temps are consistently too high or just plain BSOD if it fails during the night. I would use Adia 64 if your doing an overnight test, I personally let OC test run for 12 hours but that's your choice, I'd be sure to go into the power options to not let it go to sleep or hibernate during that time.

Okay cool thanks for the advice=) it passed the 14k self test so I'm just waiting for the one hour mark to run out to download Aida for the overnight test. I think I'm pretty golden though if it hasn't BSOD after 1 hour at 100% cpu usage considering the last time I tried 4.8Ghz it blue screened after one cinebench run.

I had an unfortunate case where I was 6 hours in on stress testing and it failed when I was doing the 12 hour run but lucky all I needed was a little more voltage, sometimes it happens that way though it's hard to say.
