mostly gaming, I have only ever had windows 8 but all tutorial are on windows 7+ I find it easier to use

well

performance wise Windows 10 in the windows family and then theres OSX, stay away unless your a music creator 

and then theres linux which there are SO MANY different kinds...

Windows 8.1 is then the best, technically. Pretty much all games are made for, or are compatible with it. It's also a little better performing for games than Windows 7. Windows 10 will likely become the best once it's fully available.
