(Bit late for posting this but I've been so busy)

 

Assembly Summer 2013

- Biggest LAN in Finland

 

Assembly is held this weekend, starting today 12.00 (am) GMT+3. Party place is at Harwall Arena, Helsinki. It's clearly biggest lan event in Finland with 2,5k computer places and over 5k visitors during 4 days.

 

Among other LAN activities, such as HC gaming, loud music and ignoring personal hygiene, Assembly has concerts, seminars aimed for software developers and demosceners, eSports competitions and main thing, demos.

 

You can follow event live from AssemblyTV. Most of content will be in english. Streams will be posted here http://www.assembly.org/summer13/activities/assemblytv/streams . Schedule for stream is here http://www.assembly.org/summer13/activities/assemblytv/schedule

 

E-Sports will have their own streams. At least for Asus ROG Starcraft 2. LoL and Dota2 look like there will be only minimal coverage. SC2 stream http://www.twitch.tv/rogtournament?utm_campaign=live_embed_click&utm_source=sett.fi

 

I'll be attending with computer place. So will @Markkedi showing off his mini-itx build. Any other finnish forum members who are attending are welcome to say hi to me. My place is at arena floor B13/16

Why there aint BF3 and other good games?

 

you cant play bf3 over lan, and even if, bf3 competitive is as fun as lifting rocks...

Why there aint BF3 streams and other good game streams?

 

Assembly isn't really BF-series fan. Only time BF was featured it was EA sponsored 2142 final between Team Wilda and Team Dignitas. I sure hope BF4 will have enough esports potential to get its own place.

Those seminars look really interesting. too bad I'm thousands of miles away.

 

All seminars are streamed live. Just check AssemblyTV. And they will be uploaded to archives also. There's almost all previous seminars also.

 

I'm now finally at my place. I almost had heart attack when my machine didn't boot. Then after checking all cables, one technician found that my "Clear CMOS" switch was on. Now I'm here through event ;)

Today it was time for stands and outer areas. I've had great time so far. I've seen Oculus Rift in action. Here's three devices that can be tested. There's also indie game made for it. It participates on GameDev competition and I'm pretty sure it will win also. I had time to test some Duckys and talk with presenter ladies. Before I thought that reds were my switches but now I'm more toward browns. Anyway, more updates on tomorrow.

Ok here's my last "coverage" -type post to this topic. Its last night at ASM. All competitions are over (well SC2 final is starting). Here's my thoughts about today.

Then to demos. For those who don't know what demos are, they are demonstration of coders skill. All but one compos have rules that limit used platforms, size of executable file and length. Here's some of my favorites. Rest are uploaded to here http://archive.assembly.org/2013

 

1k intro - How much can you fit to 1 kilobit?

 

4k intro - What if we quadruble that space?

 

Real Wild - Yeah... those were too easy. What about using 20x4 block LCD?

 

Short Film - Jokes aside. GZ for these guys.

 

Demo - Could you run it? (Made for i7 4770K, GTX 780)

 

 

So much to do, so little time. This is an great experience. Everytime. My 5th Assembly Summer.
