Just wondered if you guys could give me any sage like advice on my potential setup. I'm trying to build a gaming rig that can run 4K easily even though the monitor I'm using isn't 4K lol. I did a bit of research and this is the best I can come up with without going over the top. I haven't built a PC before so I'm sure you will probably know more than I do. The 2 things I'm not sure about with this build is the motherboard and ram. I was told that more the mhz the better so I went for 3200mhz although I wasn't sure if I should go with corsair of g.skill for ram. The reason I went for the motherboard was the fact that it was one of the few that I noticed that can handle 3200mhz.

Why do you need an i7 especially one w/6 cores and 12 threads?

Why do you need a WD black drive?

Also 1600MHz ram is fine. Ram speed doesn't effect performance much.

Also 16gb may be overkill for gaming but if you want to render videos it is fine.

Also dat board!!!

This is pretty over the top as far as pricing goes. Do you just have money to blow?

Why a Cosmos II? It's pretty oversized especially for what it does and darn expensive as well.

Why iPPC fans? Is the room you're in not loud enough or harsh when it comes to dust and potential liquids entering the system?

Is the bluray drive really necessary?

Ram speed doesn't really matter for gaming with a discrete graphics card.

You should probably get an IPS panel for the better colors and viewing angles over TN.

Moving thread to New Builds and Planning--please post in the correct sub-forum in the future.

In essence: way the fuck overkill. (Except for the GPU, that's good(and sexy))

I have a $5000 budget...saved up for a couple of months for it :) I just want a decent rig that can run 4K and one where I don't have to install new components for the next 3-4 years hence why everything is so ott. I didn't want a cosmo 2 but it was one of the few that could hold the motherboard (wanted to go with a phantom 820 instead but pcpartpicker said it was incompatible). I was a bit clueless in regards to the fans so I just chose one of the best rated ones on the site but I did notice the decibel levels were high compared to the other fans. The bluray isn't and I could probably just go for a normal cd reader. Can you recommend any decent IPS monitors? Also apologies for putting it on the wrong forum.

Also I multitask a lot so I figured I needed to get a decent cpu hence why I went for an i7. I went for WD Black cause I heard that it was a really good hard drive. Glad to know I don't need to use that much speed so I can change the memory I use and probably get a different motherboard as well. Which also means I don't have to buy the cosmo 2 :)

Can you guys recommend a really good motherboard for overclocking?

Monitor is iffy, but overall way better performance for the dollar.

Just get a socket 1150 i7 (if you need all d'em threads) and a z97 motherboard.

Get the cheapest 7200RPM hdd made by Seagate or WD of the capacity you want.

Is a CD drive actually necessary?

Spending $5K now and hoping it lasts longer than just upgrading from a cheaper system is the wrong way to go about it. Tech gets better and cheaper with time--not the other way around.

If money isn't really an issue, you could get something like this and add another card for sli later down the road: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/T7DMHx

Otherwise, it could be much cheaper going with 1440p and upgrading when pricing for 4K is more appealing: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/bNk8cf
