Greetings guitarists of LTT.

I've decided that i want to get rid of the nickel plated hardware on my Taro Lp (it's a decades old) and I've decided that it would be a nice combo to go with all black hardware, and if that doesn't go well i could always go with gold hardware as well.

Any recommendations for finding said hardware? Any pickups that have a high "bang for buck" ratio?

EDIT: I'd like pickups that look like these (circled in orange) https://flic.kr/p/wubpJ7

Rock and metal... Maybe some variants of rock and metal that i probably don't know exist...

I think that's most of what i play.

ok then you dont need a very high output pickup because you have a high gain amp but it depends how picky you are on your sound and what you want and what sound you have goijng on in your head ill throw a few recomendations to check out alrighty?dimarzio crunch lab, dimarzio paf pro, dimarzio super distortion, seymour duncan custom custom sh-11 now be noted these are only bridge pickups not neck pickups. do you want to replace both? do you use your neck pickup at all?

I'll check those out.

As for which i use... I think i always have the selector switch set to both. No idea if your only supposed to use one of them. Guess I'll find out...

But i would like to replace both of them, with something that looks like these humbuckers... Forgot to mention in op. https://flic.kr/p/wubpJ7

ok the one on the top right is an sh 8 invader pickup by seymour duncan ive had those and theyre really really hot and honestly i didnt care for it thing is we live in a world with high gain amps the whole purpose of high gain pikcups was to make up for the lack of high gain amps back in the old days and now we really do exactly need them honestly i play heavy metal and rock and i use a very low output pickup setup on my prs se custom 22 i use a paf pro in the neck and a paf pro 36th anniversary in the bridge. i recomend using the treble pickup as it may be marked on the pickup selector for more of your heavy rhythem tones and the bass pickup which is the neck pickup for more cleaner stuff or if youre doing sweep picking and want a more cleaner high gain sound. and as for what youre supposed to use do what you want and figure out what sounds best for that sound you have going on in your head. also the thing i mentioned about the pickups an amp builder told me that and hes been around quite a bit and knows what hes talking about and what hes doing. hope this helps.

Well I personally don't think that it matters if he has a High Gain amp because if he gets Hot Pups then he can just tone down the Gain :P @XTankSlayerX I remember you from that one post xD

. As my cousin stated back when he was touring let the electronics be as clean as possible and let the amp do the work

. Also since you're using a digital amp the sound difference in changing pickups may not seem that bog as compared to if you had a tube amp.

Haha, yeah man. It seems like I'm going to be saving up for a kit guitar, I'll be building it (most likely) with my mom's boyfriend who knows a lot about guitars and other useful stuff for a project like that.

(Look below for reply on the pickups)

So it technically doesn't matter too much? I can go with any humbuckers i'd like? Or are there guidelines?

EDIT: Would there happen to be any pickups like the Seymour Duncan Blackout AHB-1s? I'd like some that would be more square and black with that "stealth" look. That aren't as expensive as  the Blackouts? Sub 100 dollar range

I think you could go with any pup you want and if it is too gainy sounding then pull your tone knob back or your volume and bring your amp volume up.. Or at least that is what I do in the studio and when I am recording bands :P

Alrighty then! Seems like that should be rather easy.

As for the pickup... Style? Do you know of any Humbuckers that are  black like this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2PCS-NEW-Black-Sealed-Humbucker-Pickup-Set/1666243649.html or this http://c1.zzounds.com/media/fit,2018by3200/quality,85/blackouts-2bc20500b9f750043e59dfaaf81b3398.jpg ?

Thanks for the help!

Yeah the soapbar style looks really good, I personally like the look of the sh-4 JB pickups from Seymour Duncan

Yeah. Nice and classy n cool.

Right! So i found some good looking ones, although I'm not sure which one to buy for rock and metal music. Would you be able to help?

The one's I'm eyeing are the passive 74.99 dollar ones.

I would steer away from EMG's unless it is the expensive active ones :P you will get a real ceramic sound and that doesn't sound good.. Go for the DiMarzio Crunch Lab pickups, they sound great and are super minimalistic looking, also cheap

Edit: sorry not the crunch lab 7 pups, those are for 7 strings.. I forgot that :P I mostly use 7 string guitars :P

Alright, had a look at the crunches(?)

On their website it shows that the second pickup is uncoloured metal, but on the Internet (musicians friend)

It shows that bit in black...

Slightly confused but they do sound nice. Although im unsure about the way i feel about the looks

Yeah they are great sounding pickups and there are other Soap Bar looking pickups if that is what you are looking for at sweetwater with pretty good deals just be sure to steer clear of EMG's xD

Will steer clear of those EMG pickups!

As for DiMarzio, all their stuff is good right?

Looking at the D activator X (great name) Dual Sound and the Evo 2s as options as well.

Thanks for helping me :)

Sorry for the flood of questions.

Haha yeah the only good EMG's are expensive ones that use a battery.. The DActivator pickups are great, a friend has a set and really likes them, DiMarzio is a great Pickup brand and they are super cheap for what you get.. No prob about the questions, it is what I am here for :D:P

. Blackouts are nice depends if you get the active models I like the Seymour Duncan distortion I used to have which was awesome and honestly....just pull out your tone pot you really don't need it I've never in the 7 years I've played guitar used it nor have I needed it look around at sound profiles some websites will help you find the pickup you're looking for with on site applications
