http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10214822/Drivers-to-be-banned-from-wearing-Google-Glass.html

The Department for Transport has acted before the invention goes on general sale amid fears that users could be distracted. A spokesman said: "It is important that drivers give their full attention to the road when they are behind the wheel and do not behave in a way that stops them from observing what is happening on the road.

I've been saying this since the start of Glass, now look what happened!

Not exactly unexpected. In fact, I think it is a great idea.

I can't wait until cars become self-driving, anyway.

I love giving the counter-argument to "but what if the technology fails and crashes the car?", which is "I'd rather have an entire city's-worth of robot drivers over texting-teens and drunk drivers any day of the week, any year of the millennium."

I would agree with this because the screen could sort of block your view. You could put your glass on the front dash and use it as a dash cam. :)

so what if someone perscription glasses are google glass? doesn't that make it even worse if you can read road signs...

It's already worse that you spent the money for prescription glasses from Google.

As someone who wears glasses, I have more than one pair of glasses FYI.

The small size of the screen right in front of your face is about the same on your retina as a larger gps on your windshield. So not much difference in obscuring your view.

Really happy that this has been done, this should save live like the ban on mobiles did.

They are essentially already retroactively banned in Norway as well, as there is a ban on phone and text use in effect and the glasses have both capabilities.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I personally would prefer (and think it would be safer) to have GPS info displayed on a Google Glass that the driver is wearing rather than a separate device on the dashboard or windshield. I would like it even more if it could display information on a semi-transparent screen near where your focus should be, rather than needing to look away from the road to read your speedometer or fuel gauge. I mean, it's one thing to ban texting or even phone calls (though if they're banning phone calls they should also ban all conversations in a moving vehicle), and I can imagine lots of ways Glass could end up being worse if stupid people decide "hey, as long as I'm not using my hands it doesn't matter what I do with it!" but there are also good possibilities that are being shut down by this.

I'm not at all surprised, from what I hear, they are not all that great yet.  1500 bucks for something that only lasts for 3 hours of usage and doesn't keep connection with your phone half the time...

But the idea is great, they have to start somewhere right?
