Ive noticed my reservoir has been going down in level over the last few days and last night noticed the coolant beginning to pool up at the bottom of the res

I'm looking at replacements for my res but unsure how to go about it, obviously I don't want something like this happening again (thankfully I was up late playing games to notice it) but unsure on what res to choose as a replacement.

Id like to keep the pump, and most reservoirs i look at either come with the pump or the pump needs to be separate, Cant find a res that comes ready to install a pump to make it a combo if that makes sense. Im not really fussed if the pump is separate or in a pump res combo config (prefer the look of a separate pump but prefer the money saved with a combo lol).

Basically just looking for a recommendation of a new res, and ways to reuse my current pump

What happen to your current unit is it just a bad fitting or seal?

There are a lot of stand alone reservoirs out there from EKWB, Bitspowers and others out there:

For now, you can use a water bottle, lol, and do it ghetto style while you wait for your new one

You can try draining your loop and filling it back up. Sometimes it will be fine after that because it relieves the o-ring and it can make a proper seal again. I would drain your loop, redo your res fittings, and then do a blow test.

oh, i so posted the reply before I saw the pic, for a miniscule problem like that, try to super glue it together, and if that doesnt work, do what I said above if you want lol

XSPC Photon reservoir?

If that's the case the rubber gasket between the glass and delrin bottom failed, it can be replaced but requires a fair it of work. If it's a screw on reservoir like EKWB and no damage to the the tube itself then it just needs a new gasket.

yeah its the photon res, from what ive heard they're pretty average and after owning one I dont think I would recommend getting one (this isnt the first time this has happened btw)

I have their combo unit for a good 4-5 months with no problems, it comes sealed and pressure tested from the factory but I can understand why it can possibly fail since it's press fit with o-rings. I'd contact them and make them replace it if it's happened more than once, the only way of really fixing something like this is to spec out a new o-ring, replacing would be easier and less work per-say.

So uh, I kind of had a similar problem earlier this year, but I was using a different reservoir and mine completely came apart, lol. I used some "All purpose cement" and so far that has worked well for me(although comes at a cost visually). I'm sure you can use something less crude looking, but I mainly wanted to show you my solution.

LEL

Looks like someone was a sleep on the job, seems like they didn't even glue the acrylic together.

@WaavinHicks

You could use 100% silicone to seal it but that's really your call.

Yeah lol, but the amazing thing is it held up for about 8 years before leaking. Honestly that has been the biggest problem I have found with reservoirs, since gluing these things require so much precision which some people just cant do(don't blame them either, people aren't machines).

Before I purchase am I missing anything? Also, dont know if that little tube is what I needed for the return line, inlet to the res will be from the top. Fittings radiator etc is for an upgrade I was planning coming up but I figure now is probably best to do it when my system is in pieces anyway

Oh, and since when does mayhems pastel ice white not exist? dont really want UV coolant but I dont have UV lights so I guess itll just look white anyway?

Yep that looks pretty good and the little clear tube is to prevent splashing noise if you have the fluid return through one of the top ports.

The Mayhems pastel white is still around they might be out of stock? The UV white stuff should work as plain white without UV lights.

Okay sweet I thought so but best to double check

Any experience with EK coolant? its cheaper and comes in just normal pastel white

If it's EKWB's pastel lineup and cheaper go for it, it's made by Mayhems they have a partnership over the Pastel lineup.

  • 3 weeks later...

Okay so I may have messed up, the parts have arrived and I realised with a third radiator I cant mount the pump to the floor like I planned... Dont know how I overlooked that but anyway, is there a way I can make that res and pump into a combo? ive seen the male to male fittings and stuff but would that be strong enough to hold it as I dont know how else I can secure this pump :S

how much space is there a male to male fitting would work as long as the res and pump are securely mounted. As for converting it I don't think you can other than getting one of the res that are made as a pump combo without the pump.

They have a Res+Pump top combo that does this but I'm not sure if you can buy the parts separate.

Theres more than enough clearance to have the pump under the res, im just unsure how I can mount the pump to anything, I went to a few local pc stores asking for some kind of bracket but no one had anything.

Only place I can think will work is over this opening

You could get universal mount like this and place it ontop of the rad with rubber washer to dampen vibration:

Thats what I was looking for or something similar but I cant find anywhere in australia that sells anything like that

Just a heads-up as an Aussie - EKWB does sell directly to consumers here in Australia, though it'll be expensive (they do show parts pricing in AUD and such on their webstore, but orders are done as Euros and converted through Paypal or such at-payment) and take it's sweet time as the items come from their stocks over in Europe.

I got the full-cover waterblock + backplate for my GTX780 and a 250mm res tube (along with some extra fittings) directly from them for my Beast Rig's loop, after getting the EK X360 kit from PCCG (the kit came with a 150mm res tube, which was too short to fit naturally in my HAF Stacker 935 without having to drill extra holes, the 250mm res tube fits nicely laying down in the mini-ITX unit "roof").
