Morning,

I am looking to buy a CPU for a build I am going to complete in the next month or two, and being newer to tech I was wondering what I can expect to happen to CPU prices when Skylake launches in August?

I'm currently looking to buy a i7-4790K which I plan to over clock on air and eventually a custom water loop. Can I expect to see a price drop on the 4790K when Skylake launches? Is the price likely to stay the same?

Any info or experience from previous product launches is appreciated.

If you live near a Microcenter they often drop the prices of the previous gen CPUs a pretty good amount in order to clear out stock and make room for the new CPUs.

I bought my $2500k for $160 and it even dropped down to $100 to clear out the last little bit they had, though by the time they did the $100 thing their stock was pretty much gone so I would not count on being able to nab a CPU for that big a discount.

Aside from that most retailers, online and off, don't discount the previous gen CPUs much.

Expect $10, maybe $20 off on average.
