Hey,

So I am looking into buying a gtx 970. It seems like a good card, but I dont understand the 3.5 gb vram issue. I looked at 2 videos that explain it but still dont understand.

I understand the game can only see 3.5 gb in the graphics card. The system can see the whole vram of the gpu, correct? So why cant the system dedicate that remaining 0.5 gb ram to the game, even though its 4x faster than the system memory?

Thanks

if u gunna be playing at higher than 1080p ur fucked

if not then ur fine although you may not be able to max out on certain games because of the 0,5 slow cashe

wrong m8'ty, OC the memory and you can delay vram gate, @ 2030 I get vram gate at like 3.8. when you overclock the memory on maxwell you are also affect memory bus speed thus overclocking the controller that was gimped.

PEWDIEPIE DONT CROSS THAT BRIDGE

One major issue with the partitioning of the VRAM is that one partition can read while the other can write, but both partitions can never be read at the same time or written to at the same time.

@ColdDigital. Have you taken a look at Anandtech's article on the issue? It might give you a better understanding of what's going on. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8935/geforce-gtx-970-correcting-the-specs-exploring-memory-allocation

Overall, it's nothing you'll really need to worry about. I have one and it works great, even at 1440p.

It was a very minor specification listing confusion that got blown completely out of proportion.

It's a great card.
