Hi !

so i wanted to buy a new motherboard for my fx 8350 so i thought about two one premium one more of a mid ish one but good quality

the MSI 970 Gaming vs MSI 990FXA Gaming.

the MSI 990FXA Gaming has a 990FX+AMD SB950 chipset with usb 3.1 and the other one not.

so is it worth it to buy the more expansive one for 160~ euro's or for 100~ euro's the MSI 970 Gaming.

also whats the difference between 970 chipset and 990FX chipset also what does the SB950 mean?

thx.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

On the 990fx it would support sli/xfire and has better overclocks

it's really not worth the upgrade mate, the gains you would see from overclocking the FX further will be very disapointing to be honest, those chips have such low IPC that increasing the clockspeed on them yield next to no benefit...keep using your curent board and save until you have enough for a core i5-4460 and a new H97 motherboard.

I see you have an R9 290 GPU and your FX will still limit it's performance in games even if you can clock it a 5ghz.

thats it?

yes that's it...and to get better overclocking you must be the lucky owner of a lucky chip that overclock well and not all of them do. You also need a good aftermarket CPU cooling solution, idealy a 240mm AIO or something like that.
