Hi Guys.

Any day now my PC should be up and running. Just wondering what I should plug into the monitor for the best results for gaming?

[PCPartPicker part list](http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/kLdqf7) / [Price breakdown by merchant](http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/kLdqf7/by_merchant/)

That is my build with the monitor included. Pretty sure I only saw HDMI x1 & VGA x2.

What cable would get the best results for gaming in regards to graphics, any lag and any other factors?

Thanks.

Just use the HDMI, it'll be perfect for 1080p 60Hz

that will be fine hdmi only bottlenecks 4K to 30hz

Unless VGA is the only input in the display.

Always go digital over VGA.

DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort are all digital.

Thanks guys. So what's the problem with VGA?

If you had to choose over HDMI or DVI, what would you choose and why?

vga is for poor people and i would choose dvi for 1080p 144hz but for 1080p 60hz and a monitor with speakers then hdmi because audio

VGA is analog as well with DVI-A (Which i believe is uncommon)

With Analog you either have a good image or a bad image (Can be a thin line between them)

With Digital you either have NO image or a good image. (Not a thin line)

But if you get no image using a digital cable return it, it is faulty.

VGA is just analogue, so when you increase the resolution/refresh rate/bandwidth needed the quality of the image decreases along with colour depth/bit rate.

As for DVI v HDMI (It depends on the type of DVI) but Duel Link DVI-D is the better standard as it can 'officially' support higher resolutions and refresh rates

it's a shame to just use 1080p on a 980Ti but oh well..

HDMI will be just fine for 1080p 60Hz. also for 1440p but I'd go DisplayPort starting 1440p.

for 1080p DVI is also fine and can provide a better image in some cases since HDMI also transmits audio (if available) and some monitors/GPUs scale it to a TV image ;)

VGA is basically the last way you want to go, it's alright but if you can do something else DO IT.

Thanks guys. I'll be using my 1080p monitor for a few months then upgrade to a 1440p monitor @ 144hz probs. When I do, I should use a display port for it, not HDMI or DVI?

Yes use DisplayPort for 1440p 144Hz

Displayport is new and can be very expensive.

It's only like £9 per cable, with DL-DVI-D being about £5/6, and DL-DVI doesn't do 1440p @ 144Hz, only at 60Hz

I mean that Display Port Monitors can be expensive. Don't be a troll!!!

Oh O.o

If he's getting a 1440p 144Hz monitor though then it will have DisplayPort  But yes they are expensive lol, sorry thought you meant the cable was expensive so he should use DVI or something aha

can but shouldnt. I mean he has a 980Ti and with every decent monitor a proper DP cable is included. and I even bought a new better one with 4K support in MST (Multistream) and I only paid 18€ for it..

For anything higher than 60Hz you will have to go DisplayPort anyways.

Lol look at the post you replied to that he made, he said he was going to buy a 1440p 144Hz monitor in the future and asked what cable he should use then

DVI can do 144Hz and most monitors have DVI, but if the monitor you choose has display port DEFINITELY Displayport

DVI-D does 144Hz at 1080p, not at 1440p, at 1440p it only does 60Hz, so the OP would need to use DisplayPort on the monitor he plans to buy in the future

But 1440p is close to twice the price as 1080p with 144Hz

Yep, about $300 more for one the same size, no one said it's cheap  :D

Just saying what he would need to use if he did get one.

So this is just a really stupid question. I guess one end of which ever cable I choose goes into the back on the monitor and the other end goes into the back of the GPU?
